]]>It’s that time of the year again when everyone is busy making New Year resolutions. You’ve probably made yours—or maybe you’re making them right now.
As you type on your laptop, tablet, or smartphone, you notice it’s running low on power. You can’t make it home in time to recharge it. What do you do?
You get the RAVPower 20000mAh PD 60W charger and supercharge your device so you can complete your task without worries.
In this digital era, it’s become crucial to stay connected on the go. A power bank is no longer an option but a necessity. Whatever your charging needs are, the RAVPower 20000mAh PD 60W power bank fits the bill.
It’s a powerful, pocket-friendly, portable power reservoir for your MacBook Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S10, and other devices. It’s one of the best RAVPower PD portable chargers and our newest release this year.
But don’t take our word for it, have a look at its features.
The fourth-generation MacBook Pro features two USB-C ports. USB-C is the new standard for charging and transferring data. USB-C ports (connectors) can charge faster than older USB ports. The revolutionary technology will soon be on every gadget.
Our 60W PD charger for MacBook Pro is as powerful as the original charger that came with your machine. PD (Power Delivery) technology is a single charging standard that can be used with any USB device. It charges batteries faster, pushing the limits of power (voltage and current) to increase energy flow to your devices.
The RAVPower PD charger is the fastest USB charger available and delivers power to your devices through its two ports. It is stylish and comes with a traveling pouch. It can charge 2 devices at once—thanks to its 60W output—and provides high-speed charging to most USB-C devices.
Reduce the number of chargers you carry and use this power bank to charge your electronic devices.
When you get the RAVPower PD charger, you’ll save yourself the hassle of carrying numerous chargers. It’s fitted with a 20000mAh battery pack and stores enough energy to power several smartphones at once.
It can power your Galaxy S10 3.4 times, your iPhone 11 Pro Max 2.5 times, and your iPad Pro 2018 1.6 times. It can also charge your Nintendo Switch extremely fast. For faster charging, use the USB-C to lightning cable by Apple.
Weighing only 8.8oz (250 g), this charger was designed with portability in mind. It has a very small footprint and measures 7.08 x 2.12 x 0.98in (180 x 54 x 25mm). It’s so small it can fit in the palm of your hand—the same cannot be said for most 20000 mAh chargers. Compact and well-built, you can take it with you everywhere you go.
If you travel a lot and usually get concerned about going offline because you can’t charge your devices, this RAVPower PD portable charger was designed specifically for you. It comes with 2 charging ports and can charge a laptop and a smartphone simultaneously, or two smartphones.
The charging system includes one QC port and one PD port and charges your gadgets at high speeds. The two will solve all your charging issues. The QC (Quick Charge) port is an important one because it ensures your devices get charged in less time.
Quick Charge is a technology developed by Qualcomm. It offers more power and charges batteries faster than standard USB technology. The PD and QC ports have a total output of 60W.
Once you get the RAVPower PD power bank, you’ll never have to worry about your devices running out of charge.
You must be wondering how long it takes to charge the RAVPower PD power bank, considering how powerful it is.
You’re in for a treat.
With a 30W PD charging adapter, you can fully recharge the power bank in only 2.5 hours.
The charger offers stepless multi-voltage charging. The PD input range is 5V/3A to 20V/1.5A (30W Max), the PD output range is 5V/3A to 20V/3A (60W Max), and the QC output range is 5V/3A to 12V/1.5A (18W Max).
At the back of the charger, the power specifications are listed. This is quite useful if you fly regularly because TSA conducts checks on power bank ratings.
Even though the power bank doesn’t come with a charger, it has a USB-C to USB-C cable. The best and fastest way to charge it is to connect it to a 30W USB-C wall charger through the USB-C port. Charging it using any other type of USB cable will take longer.
RAVPower chargers are ergonomically designed to offer you value for money and to power your devices on the go. This power bank will exceed your expectations. It features the RAVPower design you have come to know so well. Its frame is made from tough plastic and its surface has a beautiful matte finish.
The PD charger comes with a detailed user guide to help you know how to use it quickly. You won’t have to worry about overheating, current overload, or short-circuiting. Advanced charging guards fully protect it from any damage caused by high temperatures, overcurrent, or overheating. You can leave your devices charging and go run some errands.
The RAVPower 20000mAh 60W PD charger is a lifesaver—especially if you travel a lot or need a power bank you can use when your MacBook Pro or smartphone runs out of charge. It is lightweight and small in size, so you can carry it everywhere you go.
Grab this charger RP-PB201 before you go on that long trip or for an adventure in the wild!

]]>The top CES 2020 highlights showcased a concept-heavy consumer tech show.
There were tissue-paper-delivering robots, foldable tablet-laptops, and a new T7 Touch Portable SSD by Samsung. It seemed as if this year’s exhibitors conspired to make it hard for techies to grab many of the products within the next 12 months.
But there were a handful of exemplary offerings you can enjoy right now—like GaN charging technology. Offering super-fast charging speeds, improved charging safety, and compact portable wall chargers, it was one of the practical innovations on display.
Here are some of the best CES 2020 highlights. We’ll also be looking at some CES GaN chargers.
So, which technologies stood out?
The first of the CES 2020 highlights, Sony stole the show with its Vision-S electric concept car. The Tesla-like vehicle showcases Sony’s new sensor and in-car entertainment technologies.
Its dashboard features a set of rectangular displays that stretch from end to end. Two of the displays have touchscreens and allow the driver and passenger to access all of the media controls.
However, you won’t be able to buy the car anytime soon as it’s something between a concept and a prototype. Sony has no plans of mass-producing the car.
Samsung’s Ballie is a ball-like robot you could actually care about. It’s a personalized companion that understands you. The robotic ball can move with you around the house, be a workout buddy, take crisp photos, and help you to automatically change your smart home’s settings.
The best part is that unlike your drowsy cat, Ballie will update you about what’s going on at home while you are away.
At first glance, the OnePlus Concept One doesn’t look different from any other smartphone. But take a closer look at its back and you’ll spot the glass section that’s devoid of camera lenses. The cameras are there, they are just cleverly hidden using the most high-tech fashion you can imagine.
Electrochromic glass is used to hide the cameras and they only appear when needed. The light-transmission properties of the glass are changed when light, voltage, or heat is applied to it.
When it comes to external SSDs, only two things matter: faster drives and more storage. Samsung’s new offering, the T7 Touch External SSD, goes one step further. It incorporates a fingerprint reader to keep your files safe—besides the normal improvements to transfer feed.
The portable SSD makes use of biometric security to protect your files—even when you use a laptop without a fingerprint reader. You can easily share the drive with your family and friends as it allows you to register up to 4 different fingerprints.
Instead of keeping you waiting for the best PD Pioneer GaN chargers—like everyone else—RAVPower launched new chargers that are tiny, lightweight, and ideal for charging on the go.
Our 30W PD Pioneer USB-C wall charger is the world’s smallest GaN wall charger. It has foldable prongs, universal compatibility, and can charge an iPhone XS Max to 50% in 30 minutes.
Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology is a new technology that offers fast charging speeds and protection against overheating, overcharging, and short-circuiting—while charging your favorite devices up to 3X faster.
The 61W GaN Tech USB-C Wall Charger can fully charge your MacBook Pro in just 2 hours. A standard charger would take 4 hours.
If 61W is a tad too much for your device, get the compact 45W PD Pioneer GaN Wall Charger. It charges all your gadgets at a high speed with PD 3.0.
Be sure to get a charger with multiple PD USB-C ports so you can charge several devices simultaneously—at their optimal charging voltage and temperature. They will also charge safely, thanks to RAVPower’s iSmart Technology.
This year, we are launching two new PD Pioneer GaN chargers: RP-PC128 and RP-PC133. They will empower you to take full advantage of even faster charging and iSmart Technology. Learn why you need a PD charger here!
In 2020, you can expect to see better PD GaN wireless chargers, smaller (high-capacity) universal portable chargers, and chargers that will help you to save up to 93% energy every time you charge your favorite mobile devices.

]]>Before CES 2019, GaN charging and GaN charging tech were alien terms. Third-party accessories rarely hit the headlines, but GaN tech did. Fast forward a year later and RAVPower GaN chargers are bringing long-overdue advances to mobile devices. So, what are GaN chargers and why should you care about RAVPower GaN chargers in 2020?
Let’s delve deeper.
On January 9th, 2007, Cupertino’s icon, Apple, released what was a phenomenal piece of tech: the iPhone 1. But its 3.7V 1,400mAh lithium-ion battery was a bummer. It charged very slowly and the battery got drained fast. Too fast.
And while it may not seem like a big deal now, Samsung made a major improvement in Smartphone battery capacity by including a 1,500mAh lithium-ion battery in the Samsung Galaxy S1. The charging voltage was similar to the iPhone’s.
Back then, it took hours to charge a phone to 50% and what seemed like minutes for the battery to hit 15%.
This scenario pretty much remained the same for close to a decade until Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology was introduced—and later, RAVPower’s GaNFast charging technology. RAVPower PD GaN tech offered multiple fast-charging solutions.
But even after higher-capacity batteries were added to Smartphones, tablets, and laptops, they took 10-18 hours to charge to 100%. And then things changed. Batteries started taking 4-6 hours to charge fully.
But portable devices are always hungry for energy. Yet people have less time and need fast-charging solutions to charge 5,000mAh Smartphone batteries (or 20,000mAh RAVPower portable chargers) to 100% in under 4 hours.
That’s where RAVPower PD Pioneer GaN chargers come in.
It all started with a 30W GaN wall charger. The charger was made with GaN (Gallium Nitride), a material used to manufacture semiconductors. The material allows USB-A, USB-C, and IC chargers to be made much smaller. Power Delivery (PD) technology allows chargers to deliver enough power for quick charging while GaN allows them to be a lot smaller. PD GaN tech is truly next level.
You can now buy one of our RAVPower PD Pioneer GaN chargers like the 61W USB-C wall charger.
PD GaN tech in 2020 lets device owners take advantage of USB 3.1 (USB Type-C or USB-C) chargers to fast-charge their vital gadgets in record time.
Instead of relying on increasingly unreliable silicon-only power management integrated circuits (Power ICs), innovative semiconductor makers are combining element 31 and element 7 to produce gallium nitride (GaN) based chargers.
Silicon-only chargers and power banks have overheating, overcharging, and short-circuiting issues. Such issues compromise a device’s power level, holding capacity, and heat dissipation efficiency.
PD GaN tech helps increase power efficiency by reducing unnecessary heat dissipation, boosting power storage density, and ensuring faster charging speeds.
GaN chargers also take advantage of the USB-C format and use the same materials used to make the chargers for your Smartphone, tablet, and laptop. So, not only can you use the charger to charge multiple devices, you can also connect it directly to a wall outlet and fast-charge whichever device you want.
Some GaN chargers, such as the RAVPower PD Pioneer GaN chargers of 2020, take advantage of multiple USB-Power Delivery (USB-PD) ports to fast-charge multiple devices at the same time.
The high density of GaN chargers means they can offer more power and faster input/output while maintaining a small footprint in your travel backpack or handbag. Whether you’re charging a high-capacity phone, a laptop, or a power bank, you can do so fast—really fast.
Also, GaN technology’s high-voltage capabilities have made it possible for a charger the size of an iPhone to charge a power-consuming 13” MacBook Pro in just over 2 hours.
More advanced chargers are now offering short-circuiting and overheating protection.
Even if you have the latest iPhone or iPad, you know Apple didn’t include a USB-PD cable with the device. iPhone users have in the past used the faster iPad adapter to power their iPhones.
But what if you could get the best PD GaN tech charger for your iPhone? Wouldn’t that be great?
There are several PD GaN tech chargers you should consider getting in 2020. You’ll save time and won’t have to carry multiple cables to charge all your USB-C devices.
The RAVPower PD Pioneer GaN charger series offers top-of-the-line options. Of note is how they combine GaN technology with USB-PD charging standard.
While GaN technology delivers quick charging, the USB-PD standard ensures your devices are protected from overcharging, overheating, and short-circuiting. USB-PD technology achieves this feat by ensuring each device charges at its designated voltage and optimal battery-charging standard.
A good example of such a charger is the RAVPower 61W PD Pioneer GaN Tech USB-C wall charger. You can use it to charge multiple devices with its PD port.
It delivers up to 45W output when connected to a USB-A port. Its output goes up to 61W when it’s connected to a USB-C port. The maximum output is excellent if you want to charge devices with large batteries such as laptops.
If a 61W wall charger seems like overkill for your iPad or tablet, you may want to consider getting the RAVPower 45W PD Pioneer GaN Tech USB-C wall charger.
Featuring an ultra-slim design, it comes with a foldable plug for easy storage. Its incredible 5 output levels provide optimal charging for different devices. For Smartphones that support USB-C charging, the RAVPower 30W GaN USB-C wall charger is a great choice.
In January 2020, we will release two more incredible RAVPower PD Pioneer GaN chargers: a 90W and a 65W GaN wall charger. Both will support the USB-PD charging standard. They will also have dual ports, meaning you’ll be able to charge up to two devices at the same time—each at its optimal charging speed.
PD GaN tech is gaining popularity day by day. In 2019, its rise to fame was fueled by third-party manufacturers, especially those in the device-charging niche.
The year 2020 could be when the technology becomes the go-to solution. It may be integrated into flagship devices and power banks. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for RAVPower PD Pioneer GaN chargers.

]]>Now that the new year is here, you’re probably looking for the best wall chargers in 2020—or the best power banks. The RAVPower PD Pioneer Series has exactly what you’re looking for.
RAVPower PD Pioneer chargers offer solid Power Delivery (PD). They increase the charging speed and reduce the charging time for your Smartphone and other devices.
Thanks to their PD charging capabilities and many ports, RAVPower PD Pioneer chargers fast-charge your favorite devices in record time—even larger devices such as laptops, high-capacity power banks, tablets, and desktops.
But truth be told, there are many RAVPower PD Pioneer chargers on the market and it might feel a bit overwhelming choosing the best one.
So, how do you go about it? In this post, we show you how to choose the best RAVPower PD Pioneer chargers.
First things first, let’s discuss the importance of RAVPower PD Pioneer chargers 2020.
You probably have a Smartphone with a Micro USB port for charging and data transfer. But USB Type C ports are becoming more commonplace—and will continue to increase in popularity. Google is also pushing OEMs to increase Android device compatibility with USB-PD chargers in 2020.
You most likely have multiple devices—an iPhone (or an Android Smartphone), an iPad (or a tablet), and a laptop. Your family members, colleagues, and friends also have multiple devices they use and charge daily. This means you all use multiple chargers.
Many chargers can create a tangled mess at the power outlet. The power outlets may also not be enough for all of you to charge your devices. With all the tasks these devices accomplish, you simply can’t wait 4-7 hours for them to charge to 100%. There’s simply not much time to spare.
The good news is, one USB PD charger can charge multiple devices quickly, safely, and conveniently. USB PD charging technology helps fast-charge all your devices.
For example, the best RAVPower PD Pioneer wall chargers 2020 can charge an iPhone X to 50% in just 30 minutes.
Do you need a lot of power for your devices? Get the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20,000mAh 18W 3-port charger (RP-PB 172). It functions more like a power bank than a mere wall charger.
You’ll be able to charge multiple devices (3 at a time) quicker than you would if you were using other chargers—over 6.5 times faster for iPhones, 4.5 times faster for the latest Samsung Galaxy series phones, and 1.8 times faster for iPads. No multiple power cables are needed, just grab a single iPhone cable and you are good to go.
You can charge the portable RAVPower charger using almost any cable. Use its 18W PD charging adapter to fully charge it in about 5 hours. And yes, you can charge it as you sleep because its UL certification and iSmart Technology prevent it from overheating, overcharging, short-circuiting, and igniting fires.
If 20,000mAh is on the higher side, check out the compact RAVPower PD Pioneer 10,000mAh 2-Port portable charger (RP-PB173).
It not only charges a PD-supporting device 2.5 times faster than the ordinary 5V 1A charger, but it also powers non-PD devices. And with its PD3.0 and 18W charging capabilities, the power bank gets fully charged in a little over 3 hours.
The 45W PD Pioneer 20,100mAh USB-C portable charger (RP-PB159) is a tough, high-capacity, safe, and dependable portable PD charger for your USB-C supporting iPad, Surface Pro, or Android tablet.
If you are planning to go off the grid or you require a heavy-duty, high-capacity PD portable charger, get the RAVPower USB-C 26,800mAh 3-port portable charger (RP-PB41).
RAVPower PD Pioneer wall chargers 2020 are incredibly reliable, but the PD Pioneer GaN wall chargers offer dependable protection, advanced Power Delivery 3.0 (charges a MacBook Pro 13” in a little over 2 hours), and smart charging technology.
Worth mentioning is the 61W output PD Pioneer GaN Tech USB-C wall charger. It provides advanced protection against overcharging, overheating, overvoltage, and short-circuiting. Its smart charging technology ensures the single port charges separate devices at optimal charging speeds.
The charger comes with foldable pins to prevent damage and its thoughtful design makes it compatible with different devices and also portable.
But if you need a travel-friendly, stylish, and affordable charger, look to the USB-C PD Pioneer 45W GaN Tech wall charger and the PD Pioneer 30W GaN Tech RAVPower wall charger.
Looking for a charger you can use in your car? Get one of the five RAVPower quick-charge USB-C car chargers.
But if you want advanced iSmart protection, fast charging speeds, and to simultaneously charge two devices at full speed, get the new RAVPower 48W USB-C 2-port car charger. It can safely charge an iPhone 11 to 50% in just 28 minutes.
It also features a USB-A port that supports 18W Quick Charge 3.0 on compatible devices.
If you’d like to charge your laptop so you can complete work—and also charge an additional four devices—the best option is RAVPower’s PD Pioneer 5-port 60W output USB-C desktop charger (RP-PC059).
It has one PD port (a USB Type-C PD port) and four iSmart ports. Each of these puts out a max of 2.4A for enhanced charging. Do not use a USB adapter if you want to take advantage of the Power Delivery protocol.
Here’s some good news.
The charger comes with a 5-feet (1.5m) power cord that’s detachable and universal input (100V-240V AC) for connecting to various wall outlets.
We are working on creating even more travel-friendly (compact, high-capacity, and universal) PD chargers. Chargers with 65W, 95W, and 100W output will soon be added to the RAVPower PD Pioneer power banks 2020 family.
The new RAVPower PD Pioneer chargers will be compatible with more phones, tablets, laptops, and other gadgets. We’re launching two new RAVPower PD Pioneer power banks (RP-PB201, RP-PB203) in January 2020. These have better features than those of the 10,000mAh PD Pioneer 29W output portable charger (RP-PB186).

]]>You probably have numerous chargers for all your devices.
There’s one for your Smartphone, another for your iPad, another for your digital camera, another for your laptop—the list goes on and on.
If you want to capture the best moments at home, work, or at social events, you need your favorite devices to be fully charged. A multiport wall charger is the perfect solution.
Having a multiport charger for a Christmas get-together can make the difference between spending hours by the power outlet and experiencing wonderful memories with people that matter to you.
We know you love staying connected, which is why we’ve decided to write this timely post on multiport wall chargers. We’re sharing some insider tips and also recommending the best products for the season.
Let’s get right to it.
Yes, it’s important to have a charger with many ports, especially when your friends, family, or colleagues want to power their devices at the same time.
But don’t just buy any 6-port USB charger.
Get one that’s labeled “wall charger”.
A multiport charger is designed to handle more current and charges devices quicker and at full speed without short-circuiting or overheating. Some have long power cords to ensure they power devices safely. A high-quality multiport charger also protects your favorite devices against power surges.
There are countless multiport chargers on the market, but most don’t charge at full speed in all the ports. A charger’s charging speed relies on its power output.
If you have devices that support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge Technology, consider using a multiport charger with more 2.1A ports than 1A ports to take full advantage of the fast-charging technology. If you can find a 2.4A multiport charger, and your devices can handle that much current, it’s even better.
RAVPower Multiport Wall Chargers feature iSmart Technology.
iSmart Technology helps identify all the plugged-in devices so the charger can use each device’s optimal charging speed. This means the charger can charge more devices within a short time while protecting them from the battery decay that overcharging and overheating cause.
Need a powerful yet affordable multiport wall charger for a large Christmas get-together? The 60-Watt RAVPower Prime 6-Port USB Type C Charger is a great option.
It comes with five iSmart ports that support fast-charging (max 5V=2.4A output) and the sixth port supports USB-C.
If you need to charge larger devices such as a MacBook, go for the 60-Watt PD Pioneer USB-C Desktop Charger (with 5 ports). You can simultaneously charge the MacBook and four other devices using the iSmart ports.
Maybe your friends have Apple devices that need a USB-C wall charger. However, you’re not sure if there will be a USB-C supporting charging station at the Christmas party. So, you get a charger that’s designed to reverse charge or a charging cable that supports USB-C to Lighting charging.
If you choose the cable, be sure to get a long one. You’ll be able to keep your devices where you can see them—away from spilled drinks, rowdy people, and messy floors.
You can get it with a 3-foot or a 6-foot cord and keep your devices off the floor. You can use it to charge both new and older iPhone products including the iPhone 5 series, iPod Nano/Touch, MacBook, and iPad Air/Mini/Pro. It is Apple MFi certified and can fit in your luggage. It can also withstand up to 30,000 bends.
As you enjoy party after party this Christmas, be sure to carry a portable wall charger wherever you go.
Choose a compact, lightweight, and durable multiport charger that can handle a few knocks. A charger with foldable pins, overheat-protection, and fast-charging capabilities is ideal for party-hopping.
Don’t let the “PD” label limit you; you can also use the charger to power non-PD devices. It offers full-speed charging and a 61-watt power output when the USB-C port is connected. If you connect the USB-A port, it offers up to 45 watts.
If you’re going for a Christmas get-together with your family and you’re afraid that your devices will short-circuit, overheat, or overcharge, don’t be. This multiport portable charger features Smart Charging Technology to protect your devices.
If you are celebrating Christmas outside the U.S., the PD Pioneer’s AC supports both 50Hz and 60Hz input (100V-240V 1.5A).
If you prefer a multiport charger that’ll keep your devices powered on the go or when you’re off the grid, getting a multiport portable charger power bank is a smart choice.
There has been an increase in juice jacking cases at public charging ports. So, if you don’t want your charging cable to give your information to hackers or malicious third parties at airports or cafes, invest in a multiport power bank.
The 3-port power bank can charge three devices simultaneously. You’ll just need to get a 2.4A or 1A USB charging cable. It also comes with a pouch you can use to carry it. To protect your device’s battery, the power bank doesn’t support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge.
You can also charge three devices at the same time with it. It is scratch-resistant and comes with an LED indicator so you can tell how much power is left. And whether you take a domestic or an international flight, it supports 100V-240V input and its 74Wh rating means you can carry it with you wherever you go.
Christmas is here. Get a multiport wall charger, charge all your devices, and capture all the amazing moments.

]]>Here’s the thing – Christmas time isn’t just about mistletoe and wine. It’s equally important for the whole family to stay safe this Christmas, especially around all the battery-equipped gadgets, so everyone can relax. Thus, we’ve created these Christmas safety tips; these aren’t just your standard Christmas Tree safety tips!
At RAVPower, our expertise is not only in batteries and charging, but also in providing great presents for your tech obsessed loved ones (check out our Christmas Gift Guide here!)
We’re here to help you remember to make sure your outdoor lights are suitable, that you prep the right batteries for your kids toys, and everything in between. Some Christmas safety tips might seem obvious, but there will be a few you won’t have thought of!
So sit back, relax, and make a checklist of things you need to make sure are safe this Christmas. Okay, maybe don’t relax too much just yet…
You might face a power cut this winter, particularly if you’re a fan of putting up millions of lights. Plus, it gets dark super early this time of year. So, for your safety, it’s really important to make sure that you have spare batteries that are easily accessible in case of emergency.
One of our fave Christmas safety tips is making sure you have an easily accessible flashlight and spare batteries to hand, it certainly makes sure you can reach your fuse box or make your way out to the front gate in safety! Similarly, you can also buy power banks with built-in flashlights so you know you have days of power for your phone as well as a light to guide you at your fingertips.
These are great accessories to have as a back-up. But make sure you use them and then re-charge every few months to keep them at their full potential.
Keeping batteries in the house, then, is another one of our top Christmas safety tips! It will keep you safe and ensure emergencies like power cuts (or new Christmas toys that need to be played with immediately) don’t have to be dramatic.
However, you need to keep your batteries stored properly. An important thing to remember for this safe place is that it must be away from open flames and heat. This might seem like a strange request – how many people would put them near flames? – but it is cold, and it is Christmas. Not to mention, you might have a fire going and put the batteries down on the mantle, or on the top of a wood burner when it is off, and forget.
If you expose batteries to high temperatures it does more than just damage the cells inside. The battery can start to spark or flame, and some will even blow up. In summary, not a great way to help the festive mood!
As a fan of this blog, you’ve probably seen our article on button batteries and keeping children safe around them. Oh, you haven’t yet? Definitely check it out.
A lot of kids’ toys nowadays require button batteries to work. As a result, these are small and shiny – perfect for an inquisitive kid to try and chew on.
If they swallow the battery it might just pass through their system without harming them. But if it gets trapped in their throat or their saliva causes a reaction to the battery, this simple mistake can be fatal.
Another of our incredibly important Christmas safety tips, then, is to make sure your batteries are all stored out of reach of children. Any used or ‘dead’ batteries should be recycled and also stored away from curious kids before you take them to your local recycling depot.
Something you might not realize is one of the Christmas safety tips is removing batteries from Christmas decorations before you store them.
Christmas decorations are stored for most of the year, and not to mention often in dry places like lofts.
Leaving batteries in this kind of condition can be a cause for concern. Old batteries can become corroded and leak, destroying the decorations. This is also dangerous for the next person who picks it up.
What’s more, in incredibly rare cases Lithium Ion batteries can catch fire. Whilst this is extremely unlikely to happen, if the worst case scenario occurs in a box of decorations, they will all go up in flames.
Is it worth the risk to leave them in for the sake of a few minutes taking all the batteries out?
Similarly to before, you want to keep your decorations that use batteries and have electrical wiring up to date.
This is an important Christmas tree safety tip – though you might only use the lights for the tree once a year, they will also suffer the effects of age. Consequently, you need to make sure that you are replacing your decorations at regular intervals and whenever you see signs of damage.
It’s imperative to check you are using the correct decorations that are suitable to use outside of your house. This might not be your thing, in which case you can skip to our next Christmas tree safety tip!
It is vital that you check all of the battery casings for your outside lights are highly water and weatherproof. Ideally they will be IP66 weatherproof – but this might come with a higher price tag.
Regardless, you need to be aware that not all lights are suitable for outdoor use and to double check the ones you’re putting up have all the necessary precautions. Due to the importance, this is one of our Christmas safety tips you can’t ignore.
One important aspect of Christmas tree safety is that you don’t keep your Christmas tree lights on overnight.
There are a few reasons for this.
One, do you really want to spend all that money on electricity with no one to see it?
Most importantly, this is a fire hazard!
Especially if your tree is dry, the heat from the lights has the potential to cause a flame. While this isn’t really likely to happen – especially if your tree is fresh – again it isn’t worth taking the risk that it might happen.
For these reasons, you should be extra careful as well if you have more than one set of lights that you don’t overload your outlet, and that the wiring isn’t pinched or compromised anywhere around the tree.
You can purchase lights with timers on if you’re likely to forget to turn them off, or make a routine of turning them off before bed.
Finally, this has been a really popular Christmas tree safety tip this year.
As we mentioned, a dry tree is far more likely to cause an issue in a room – not least because its needles are everywhere. If there’s a spark from the fire, or faulty electrics, it’s more likely to go up in flame!
This video will illustrate to you the best Christmas tree safety, for example, how to keep your tree watered:

]]>Finding the right power bank is so important in the modern world. We’re introducing RP-PB186, an incredible 29W power bank that will help you keep all your favorite devices charged!
It can be hard to keep track of technology nowadays. We’ve had new launches from Google, Apple and Samsung this year, all of which are capable of fast charging with the right power banks.
But wait – how can one power bank cover all of those brands? And all of the different devices that those brands create?
It might seem impossible, but RAVPower’s new power bank is able to charge your iPad Air and iPhone 11 at the same time – and quickly, at that. Read on to learn about our amazing RP-PB186 power bank!
Good question.
As we explained in our long post about fast charging (well worth a look for more detail), charging and fast charging are best explained by the plumbing analogy.
In normal chargers, the current is generated and flows through the USB cables into your phone… The phone takes in as much power as its charging circuit is designed for. Fast charging simply multiplies this to increase and maximize the Wattage, or electrical output.
Fast charging, then, is what happens when the amount of current to your phone is increased without the side-effects of over-current. Your phone receives more juice and charges more quickly as a result. Please note – this means that your phone has to accept fast charging in order to fast charge. You’ll need to check this at the manufacturers website, though most recent smartphones are equipped.
In essence, you need a 29W battery because you need a charger that can meet the power needs of your device’s battery. If you can’t supply the power, the phone won’t be able to fast charge – simple as that.
Most device makers will supply their own charger to meet these demands, but this might not necessarily work across different devices. For this, you’ll need a powerful charger that can cope with whatever you decide to plug it into.
RP-PB186 is a fantastic power bank because it combines pocket-sized portability with a huge amount of power.
Key features include:
The specs also look pretty great.
Dimensions | 4.4 x 2.0 x 1.0 inches |
Net Weight | 6.7oz |
PD Input | 5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A, 18W Max |
PD Output | PD3.0 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/2A, 14.5V/2A |
iSmart Output | QC3.0/2.0 5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A |
Total Output | 29W |
All this for a price (at the time of writing) of $43.99. Sounds like a bargain to us.
Something with this much power can sometimes seem over the top. Here are three key situations when having a 29W power bank is going to come in incredibly useful.
Whether you’re off on holidays or know someone about to take a trip around the world, power is key. It’s not something everyone considers – after all, it’s such a key part of everyday life that finding the right power bank can seem low on your list of priorities.
But this is a mistake. Staying powered is important, and not just for those holiday snaps. A 29W power bank will make sure that all your portable devices will be charged to keep you or your loved ones in communication. Especially important if you’re a solo traveler, having a secure and constant means of getting in contact with people in case of emergency is vital.
Plus, this charger will power everything that electronic kills boredom on those long bus and train journeys, not to mention flights, where there’s no power outlets available. No more watching terrible airline TV shows. Download your favorites from Netflix to your iPad and watch without fear of draining your device’s battery.
Admittedly, this covers a lot of the points of the above. But what’s really important here is that it makes commuting just so much easier.
If you have a long commute and need to do work on the way, you don’t have to think about needing to sit close to an outlet. Same goes for business meetings or passing time in a coffee shop. You can keep your important devices going whilst you work and not give a second thought to where you’ll get power.
Plus, only 3 hours to fully recharge the power bank means that you can get yourself into a routine. Plug it in at lunch and when you have dinner, then put it in your bag before your leave home or work. You’ll soon be amazed that you ever bothered commuting without it!
One of the small pleasures in life is being able to lounge around your house or even outside, charging your devices without being contorted into a strange position so you can access your phone. With a 29W power bank you can easily sit back and relax around your house without a 6 foot extension cord.
We’re really proud of RP-PB186, and not just for how great it looks. At RAVPower, we want everyone to experience the freedom of being away from the power outlet. With this incredible 29W power bank you can keep all your devices powered, no matter where in the world you are.
You can purchase RP-PB186 at our website. Not sure? Check out our full range there as well!

]]>If your PC, Xbox, PS4 or other gaming console is feeling like it’s slowing, you don’t have to dispair! Simply grab yourself an SSD for gaming. No need to replace your machine just yet!
SSD’s are fast becoming the integral device for modern living. From high end business people to students and everyone in between, an SSD can benefit your life.
This sharp rise to prominence has created innovation in the wafer memory sector. Led by giants like Intel and Microsoft, SSD’s are now faster, smaller, and more durable than ever before.
RAVPower joined forces with these global titans of the memory sector to create an amazing new product. Presenting UM003 – the perfect SSD for gaming!
You can store data any way you like whilst you game. But there are some big differences between choosing an SSD and HDD that you should be aware of!
Whilst there’s no real issues with buying either, you’re going to have to work out if paying more for an SSD is worth it in the long run. With enhanced durability and portability, plus faster load times, it’s definitely an important aspect to consider!
Durability is important for multiple reasons. First off, you need to know that you can take your SSD anywhere with you and not have to worry about bumps or vibrations breaking the device, as you do with HDD. What’s more, getting an SSD with a piano baked anti-scratch surface means it stays with you for longer. More bang for your buck!
With technology from giants of the tech world Intel and Microsoft, UM003 is an SSD that will pack a punch. With a supersonic read/write rate of up to 540MBps thanks to an advanced SM2258XT controller and up-to-date USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface (supporting max. 10Gbps transfer rate), your games will load unbelievable quickly.
We’ve mentioned the piano baked surface – which also facilitates an incredible cooling performance and lowers power consumption – but have we mentioned how great it looks? Small and sleek, UM003 can fit in the palm of your hand or your pocket without an issue. Its timeless look means you can use it for years and in any situation – if you happen to need it at work one day, there will be no awkward looks!
That’s right – it’s hugely compatible. You can use it to effectively expand the storage of your PC, laptop and tablet, as well as gaming console’s. Being able to move across all these formats is a fantastic means of keeping all your files backed up without having to spend extra on different types of storage.
Make sure that no one can play your games without your knowledge when they’re on the SSD. We’ve added optional ATA security user/password system so that you, and only you, can access the files you want kept private. What’s more, with the AES 256 bit hardware solution for data encryption you’re the only one who can read or write data to the SSD via the dedicated Management Software. Stay secure!

The post Google Pixel 4 and How to Deal with Poor Phone Batteries appeared first on RAVPower.
]]>In October, we had one of the scariest frights of all – poor smartphone batteries were back in the news. Of course, this is great for charging companies… but really not helpful for people paying $1000+ for a new phone.
This is nothing new; Apple usually hogs the headlines with poor performance and battery life. We’ve addressed the ways that you can improve your iPhone battery in a previous post.
Recently, everyone was talking about one phone in particular. Google has just launched Pixel 4, which costs a pretty penny. But many reviewers and new users weren’t impressed by the size of its battery. In fact, some were so outraged they sent their phone back!
In this blog, we’re going to look into what went wrong with Google’s Pixel 4, and how it shapes up compared to competitors. Also read on if you want to learn how to deal with a bad phone battery!
Before we get into the specifics, lets answer some common questions:
Pixel 4 was released on October 24th, 2019. Pre-orders were open from October 15th, though the details of the phone got leaked on the Canadian Best Buy website.
That means you can buy it today (but we recommend you read this whole blog before doing that…)
The Google Pixel 4 costs a whopping $800+ from Best Buy. That’s not as much as many other flagship phones; the iPhone 11 Pro is $999, though the Samsung Galaxy S10 is around $750.
“a good phone ruined by poor battery life”; “the battery life is mediocre at best”; “Disappointing battery life”.
Pixel 4 hasn’t really had the best start to life, with critics focussing on its great camera versus its small battery. In a time when people are rightly expecting phone batteries to be able to cope with day-to-day activities and special features the phone boasts, a poor battery life just doesn’t cut it.
The less than optimal preformance stems from the size of the phones battery. It is only 2800mAh in a phone that is small and light, but could take the extra weight without annoying anyone.
Battery power is measured in mAh, or milliampere hour. It tells you how much charge a battery can hold, and so how long it takes before needing to be recharged.
There is a range of sizes, but generally we note that in a power bank, a 20000+mAh battery will last you a weekend. A 30000+mAh can even last a weeks’ worth of charges.
Our smallest power banks are 6750mAh, small enough to last a charge or two depending on the size of your phone battery.
A typical phone battery is around 3400mAh, and the trend has been to increase the size of these. That is, after all, what’s in demand from a public bored of having to charge their increasingly high-tech phones every few hours. Google’s choice of a smaller battery size goes against all of this.
Well… that’s one for Google to answer. As of yet, they haven’t said much.
Theories are flying around that it is partly to boost sales of the Google Pixel 4 XL, which is priced higher. Whilst we can’t confirm this, it is true that the Pixel 4 XL has a bigger battery that reviewers have said makes it a more pleasant phone to use.
Certainly, it’s a strange move. But if you want the latest Pixel phone (probably for the camera, or to work with your Chromebook) then we explain how you can deal with the poor battery life further on.
If you’ve already got a Google phone, you might be wondering if the Pixel 4 is worth it for an upgrade.
We’re not going to offer judgement, but what we will do is provide you with some quotes and specs so you can figure it out for yourself.
Pixel 4 | Pixel 3A | |
Dimensions (mm) | 160.4 x 75.1 x 8.2 | 151.3 x 70.1 x 8.2 |
Weight (g) | 162 | 147 |
Colors | Just Black, Clearly White, Oh So Orange | Just Black, Clearly White, Purple-ish |
Screen | 5.7-inch Full HD+ OLED | 5.6-inch Full HD+ OLED |
Display | 19:9 aspect ratio, adaptive 90Hz refresh rate | 18.5:9 aspect ratio |
Processor | Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 | Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 |
Storage (GB) | 64GB or 128 | 64 |
So as you’d expect, the Pixel 4 in general is more advanced. But considering the poor battery life and other specs, reviewers have been saying things like…
Battery life was really poor. The Pixel 4 only lasts just over 14 hours between charges. Remove it from the charger at 7am and it will be dead by 9pm.
The Guardian
…the less expensive Pixel 3a, which starts at $400, offers a similar experience — like a quality camera that can take great photos in the dark — for hundreds of dollars less.
Business Insider
Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to increase the battery size in the phone itself. The phone is designed to encase a 2800mAh battery; putting a larger one in would be essentially impossible, or effectively pointless. The effort and cost that this would take means you might as well buy the Google Pixel 4XL – or an iPhone, Samsung and so on.
There are, however, a few different ways you can prepare yourself if you reaaaaaally need a Pixel 4.
To fast charge any phone you need great cables, and an even better wall charger. And you can’t just use any old plug.
While more isn’t always more, we recommend getting a charger that can power all of your devices. A compact 61W wall charger, for instance, with PD GaN 3.0 technology, will charge your laptop as well as your smartphone. It’s also future-proofed, meaning you won’t have to replace your charger as you upgrade your phone.
The Pixel 4 is Qi enabled, meaning it supports fast wireless charging. This isn’t anything particularly special, as most leading phones also have this feature. What is better is that it supports up to 11W of wireless charging power for superfast charge!
This means that you can get wireless charging pads to scatter around your home and office, meaning you’re never too far away from a charge. They’re often quite small, so you won’t be taking up too much space either.
Our Recommendations: RAVPower’s 61W PD Pioneer GaN 3.0 Wall Charger, and Qi Wireless Charging Pad.
If you’re on the move all day, or worried about losing power while you commute, you should look for a powerful power bank.
Whilst we’d normally recommend something light and portable, and you can certainly find that type of device quite easily, we’re thinking if you’re buying the latest smart phones you want something amazing to power it. If you’re a commuter, you might also want something that’s helpful if you’re using a laptop to work on the train.
As such, we recommend looking for a PD GaN power bank that is at least 30W and 20000mAh. They aren’t all bricks, and will be incredibly helpful if you’re stuck with low battery. Plus, if you and your colleagues have the Pixel 4 for work, it’s a great way for you all to stay powered!
Our Recommendations: RAVPower’s amazing 45W 20100mAh PD 3.0 Portable Charger!
One of the babies of the charging technology world is over-air charging. We’ve written about this in more detail here, but essentially this is technology that can keep your phone almost permenantly charged.
You would walk into a room that has an over-air charging device and, provided your phone is in a charging case, it will automatically stay at full power.
This would be a great answer, but unfortunately it doesn’t look like this sort of tech will be widely available for a few years yet.
We’ve talked before about the impact of 5G on batteries. Or, more specifically, we’ve talked about how there really isn’t much evidence of this beyond theoretical ideas.
Unfortunately, this isn’t going to apply to you and your Pixel 4. It doesn’t support 5G, only 4G LTE.
The Pixel 4 might not have the best battery life in the world. But if this is the phone for you, then there are definitely ways around it! Pick up a great wall charger, a powerful power bank – or both! And your days will become a lot easier.

]]>At RAVPower, we like to stay ahead of the curve. That’s why we’ve brought out RP-UM003, an incredible small SSD – some would even say mini – that will revolutionize the way you store your data.
This incredible SSD system is at the forefront of powerful compact data transfer, with total device and software compatibility. We’ve also got you covered for years to come – 5 years, to be exact, which is the length of our amazing warranty.
Have we got your interest yet? Read on to find out more!
Specs you need to know!
Quick Jump
SDD stands for Solid State Drive, an amazing technology that is replacing the traditional HDD’s (hard disk drives) of yesteryear. You might be more familiar with HDD’s as they are an integral component of computers. But, in the modern fast-paced world, SSD’s and their flash chip data storage system are your new best friend.
If you’re looking for a portable data storage unit, you might be unsure which type to go for.
Never fear! We’re here to help you untangle all the jargon and fully understand what you need to purchase.
Firstly, it’s important to note that SSD’s are different to HDD’s because they don’t contain any moving parts; they’re entirely digital. This makes them a lot less likely to fail, and have a longer life. It also means you don’t have to run any defragmentation software, which has been a big issue with HDD’s since their conception.
The bit that moves in a HDD is the read/write arm. This must be in the correct place in order to access your data, which makes it a lot slower than its digital SSD counterpart. Indeed, this is the key reason most people opt for SSD drives over HDD in their laptops – HDD’s just can’t keep up!
However, you should realize that exposing both of these types of device to certain elements can be a really bad idea. Namely, storage tech like this isn’t used to sudden or extreme power surges or loss. It also isn’t able to cope with high levels of magnetism, which might wipe the drive entirely.
Here are the main differences, pros and cons:
HDD | SSD |
Moving parts – read/write arm | Entirely Digital |
Relatively slower | Super fast |
Cheaper | Usually pricier |
High storage capacity (more for your money) | High storage capacity (but less for your money) |
Less durable | More durable |
Great for creators with high capacity needs | Great for gamers and day-to-day users |
A lot of the issues above involve, but aren’t necessarily confined to, issues when you’re using HDD’s and SSD’s with a computer. But what if you don’t need, or can’t afford, a new computer as a means of upgrading your drive?
That’s where portable SSD’s come in – and they’re incredibly small SSD’s at that!
If your job or hobby involves transferring large amount of data between devices, a portable SSD is the only answer. They’re capable of transferring and carrying huge files at incredible speeds, proving you with an effective back up method and a great means of moving files about on the move. This can be between any devices, including DSLR’s, drones, mobiles and more.
RP-UM003 is RAVPower’s smallest ever SSD drive, meaning you can carry your world in your palm. This is an incredible feat of engineering and one which we’re very proud of.
Of its outstanding features, one that sets it apart is its durability. This is because of its advanced components, including the latest USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface. It’s also because we’ve made sure it’s drop tested from 1m and includes a cable that is bend tested 5000 times.
What’s more, the zinc alloy case and piano-like baked surface provide incredible cooling performance to prevent damage from overheating. Combined with its extensive compatibility, including with all USB-C devices, tablets, laptops, Macbooks, iPad Pros, as well as Android, Mac OS, and Windows, you will only need this one device for effective expansion of your device’s storage.
Finally, RP-UM003 is all about speed. It’s rapid – turbo charged, even – and has capabilities that will dramatically improve your day. It has a read/write rate to 540MB/s in optimal conditions with the host device and connection cables supporting USB 3. 1 Gen 2 and with UASP mode enabled. This is a lot more simple than it sounds, and essentially means you’ll be able to transfer media files in seconds.
This sounds like a lot but don’t worry, it’s just the most recent version of USB that offers super fast speed for USB-only devices. To get the most out of this feature, you’ll want to connect to a device that also has USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports.
There are two different versions: 512GB, and 1TB.
Smaller than your cellphone, perfect for fitting in your hand.
Oh, you wanted actual dimensions? It’s a mere 4.02 x 1.18 x 0.35in and weighs a tiny 1.5oz. So compact and portable, you can keep it on you at all times!
Yes! Simply plug it in to instantly expand your storage, upgrading your consoles memory without you having to delete any games.
Glad you asked! It’s available through our all new and improved website, or you can purchase it on Amazon.

The post How Do You Jump Start a Car in Cold Weather? & Other Cold Battery Issues! appeared first on RAVPower.
]]>In this blog, we explore the issues of batteries in cold weather, asking all the important questions like does cold weather drain batteries and how do you jump start a car if your battery has been drained? Read on for answers to these and more!
Halloween is around the corner (anyone else feel like June was just yesterday?!) which means one thing: winter is coming. And whilst there’s no more Game of Thrones series to get us through the long nights, there is definitely going to be a temperature drop!
The US is looking to experience cold weather all over, and Canada is looking to continue the trend of freezing winter months. What’s more, the UK is expecting another ‘beast from the east’ to experience the coldest winter in 30 years. Forget naming an individual winter storm – it’s worth investing in that thick winter coat!
In the cold weather it’s incredibly important to make sure that you’re prepared at all times. So you know what else you should be investing in?
That’s right!
The best jump start batteries, and any other battery devices you might need!
Ultimately – yes. Extremely cold weather and generally being cold is just really not good for batteries. Cooler storage is good though!
Batteries work when there is a connection made between the positive and negative terminals. This creates a chemical reaction that facilitates the electric current flow.
When your battery, particularly a car battery, gets cold it begins to lose its strength – some estimates say about 60% of its strength is lost at 32°F! As the battery gets colder, they can’t deliver enough current to keep up with the demand. This leads to being unable to start your car, and needing a jump start.
Similarly, your smaller batteries will be affected by extremes of temperatures. If your house is really cold throughout the day, you might struggle to get the full effectiveness out of your portable chargers by the evening.
As life science explains:
Under normal conditions, applying an electric current to the battery would transport ions back into the pores in the anode’s graphite. When the battery is frozen, though, the ions don’t enter the graphite. Instead, they exit the solution and plate across the surface of the graphite as solid lithium. That process can wreck the performance and life of a battery.
Livescience.com
Don’t worry, for the most part you battery should return to normal once it has warmed up again.
For regular batteries, the cold will probably make the battery slow down a lot and potentially read as having no battery, even if they do. This should show again as the proper battery levels once the battery is warm.
However, a typical lifespan for car batteries is three to five years, and many factors like how often and far you drive might reduce this. If you have an older battery it would be worth getting it checked in the fall, before the colder weather truly sets in. Some batteries might not be strong enough in general to survive!
So really, the answer to does cold weather drain batteries is simple – it can, and you should keep your batteries out of freezing temperatures to make sure they’re protected! And by getting the best jump starter batteries, of course, to make sure you’re ready to go in any weather!
According to Halfords, before you jump start a car, you should check:
Don’t forget if it’s freezing out as well – make sure you’re warm!
First things first, without a portable power station you’re going to need another car and some jump leads. Both cars should be safely parked and turned off, within a short enough distance you can connect the batteries via the jump leads.
When everything is safe and ready, attach one of the red clips to the positive terminal of your cars battery. You can tell that it is the positive terminal because it will have a ‘+’ sign or ‘POS’ written on it. It can also be bigger than the negative terminal. Then do the same to the other car, with the other red clip.
Next, you should attach the black clips to the negative terminals. You’ll want to do it to the live cars terminal first, and then attach the final (black) clip to an unpainted, metal surface of your car that isn’t near the battery. Something like a metal strut that holds open the hood is a good idea!
All that’s left to do is to turn on the vehicle with a working battery and let it run for a few minutes. After three minutes or so, try to start your car and then, if it works, drive around for a long time (at least 30 mins). Turning it off straight away might leave you in the same position!
We have a recommendation for the best jump start batteries type – a portable power station.
Not only are these amazing gadgets to have around for going off grid, these can jump start most cars to keep you going as the chillier weather sets in.
With a massive 14000mAh capacity, quick charging capabilities, and iSmart technology, RP-PB063 is a power bank that is perfect for keeping on hand for winter mornings. It works with all gasoline and diesel engines up to 7L with 12V batteries – as well as your smart phone!
You can also check the battery level left of RP-PB063. Per our website –
When connected with your car battery, press the Boost Button. If the LED turns green, the battery is restored and can be started normally. If the LED is red, make sure the polarities are connected correctly and that the remaining battery of the car jumper is at least 20%. The battery level indicator informs you of the remaining battery.
For a quick video instruction on how to jump start using a power station, check out the video below!
Now you know the answer to how to jump start a car and does cold weather drain batteries, you might be looking for a power station or jump starter. Check out the RAVPower range today for some of the best jump starter batteries around!

]]>Here at RAVPower, we get asked questions about many a dropped power bank. People often ask how to work out if their device is working – and what to do if their power bank isn’t working.
For some people, dropping their power bank doesn’t mean much. They’re happy to carry on with their day! Unfortunately, sometimes the power bank just can’t withstand the drop. This is only getting more prevalent as power banks become more and more popular. The market for power bank was valued at a whopping 6.84 billion USD in 2017; it has only risen since. So, that’s a lot of people who might have accidents or experience a dropped power bank that’s beyond their control!
If you’ve dropped your charging device and are worried that your power bank isn’t working – stop! We can help. Read on to find out more about what to do if you’ve dropped your power bank.
Skip to the section you need!
It’s early on a Monday morning. You’re rushing about trying to get out the house on time. You go to grab your power bank to shove it into your bag – there’s only so long a smart phone will last, of course – and the worst happens!
You drop your power bank.
Tentatively picking it up again, you shove it into your bag anyway. There’s not a lot you can do in such a rush, and it’ll probably be fine. Won’t it?
Well… yes.
Let’s face it, unless something has gone really wrong and your power bank is clearly damaged, you’re probably ok to keep using it. If you’ve bought your power bank from a legitimate source, essentially a company that puts its power banks through drop tests, it should survive the occasional drop and knock. Often this relates to being dropped from a height of under 1M – we go into more detail about what to do with your dropped power bank from this height later on.
Most power banks are drop tested to heights of under 1 meter. This is true for your RAVPower power bank and means that, generally, a drop onto carpet or a soft surface shouldn’t be something you need to worry about. Think of it in the same way as dropping your phone. Usually, a small drop like throwing it onto your bed or it falling off your bed shouldn’t cause lasting damage.
Any hard knock where the external cover is damaged or the power bank seems to be working abnormally need to be checked out.
If your dropped power bank fell from over 1 meter, you should be very careful when using it. This is above the height that power banks are tested to and so no guarantees of safety can be made. You should use common sense; if your power bank has external damage or seems to be working abnormally, you should get it checked out.
You should replace your power bank if it has been dropped and the following issues are present if:
If you are experiencing any of these issues with a dropped power bank, please stop using it immediately and seek to replace it. We also recommend that you look into how to recycle old electrical goods!
If you’re not sure whether it’s your power bank that’s stopped working or your cable/device, you can follow these simple steps:?
If these quick checks don’t result in a fully charged phone, your power bank is likely damaged.
Whilst they might not have intricate screens like phones and laptops, power banks can be vulnerable. As delicate charging technology, they aren’t created to be dropped heavily from a height. In fact, creating power banks like this would make them incredibly heavy and bulky and impractical to carry about day-to-day. But at RAVPower, power banks are all drop tested from a height of around a meter. This means they are durable for day-to-day living and expected to survive short drops onto soft surfaces.
However, at RAVPower we do have hardier power banks that are for people who want to use them outdoors. You can learn more about our best outdoor camping technology here.
Just like you wouldn’t drop your iPhone, your power bank is made up of intricate connections. By dropping it, you can easily disrupt these. So really, our ultimate advice is to be careful with your power bank!
However, accidents happen. You will almost definitely be able to tell if a drop has damaged your power bank. By following the steps above and checking for any abnormalities, you can use common sense to establish if your power bank has been broken.
Finally: if you power bank has been broken or damaged, please stop using it immediately.

The post Pass Through Charging in 2019 Update – RAVPower Recommendations appeared first on RAVPower.
]]>At the RAVPower blog, we get a lot of questions about pass through charging. A lot! Our readers are really interested in pass through charging in 2019 and pass through charging power banks. So we thought we’d try and get all the info in one place!
This blog is going to look at what pass through charging is and who really benefits from it. Plus we look at whether pass through charging is dangerous to batteries and at pass through charging power banks that come with wireless charging, or fast charging.
Lets get stuck in!
In essence, pass through charging in 2019 involves being able to connect your power bank to a wall charger and, whilst the power bank charges, your device charges at the same time.
This might sound simple enough, but it requires specialized technology to help it happen.
As we explained in a previous post…
“Pass through technology… is in essence a series of power regulating circuits inside a power back that helps match the draw of energy needed by an output device to the amps being pulled from a wall outlet. If done right, pass through will move power directly from the wall outlet to the connected device, via the power bank. This is called prioritization. Depending on load balancing performance in the power bank, the latter should charge at either a regular or slower speed than normal when working with an output device.”
So, pass through charging power banks in 2019 are, as in previous years, able to act as a conduit to prioritize power to charge your device. Whilst doing so, they charge themselves (albeit at a potentially slower speed) to ensure that both your device and the power bank are charged. This is done with no change to the charging speed of your phone.
Pass through charging is a wonderful technology that enables you to make your power go further. This means pass through charging power banks are useful for a range of people to own.
Busy people on the move will enjoy this technology because the simultaneous charging prevents extra waiting time. No more having to charge your power bank and then your phone!
People with limited space or wall outlets will love pass through charging as it reduces the amount of devices you need to plug in. Particularly if your pass through charging power bank has multiple ports!
Forgetful people will really like pass through charging in 2019 because it reduces the amount of devices you need to think about charging; if you’re charging simultaneously via your power bank, there’s no way you can forget to charge it!
Cyclists and hikers love pass through charging power banks! We looked before at how you can power yourself off grid, and one RAVPower user has told us that he uses one of our 24W solar panel chargers to trickle charge his power bank during a long bike tour. So, pass through charging can be a great way to stay charged when out and about, particularly during rest stops!
As we have discussed before, in pass through charging power banks that haven’t got adequate safety precautions, the battery might get damaged. It’s why you need to get a power bank that is specifically built for pass through charging. Whilst it might seem like any old power bank will be able to charge itself whilst charging a device, this can have catastrophic effects on your power bank.
Your power bank needs to be able to match the input and output power levels. This is to ensure there is little damage to the power banks batteries; any charger that is not able to meet these requirements might suffer from overheating. It is overheating that does the most damage to batteries, and can potentially destroy your power banks capabilities. This is why it’s so important you buy with better materials in mind. By seeking out a quality power bank that is better at balancing the various current needs, you should get a charger that prevents overheating.
However, there is little to add from our previous analysis; there still isn’t totally efficient pass through technology, and you’re relying on build quality. This is why you should go with a reputed power bank creator – RAVPower, for instance, has their own iSmart technology to fully protect their power banks.
Quite simply, yes.
One of our most impressive fast charging pass through charging power banks is RP-PB043. Featuring QC 3.0 technology and 20100mAh battery capacity, this power bank can bring your power delivery equipped phones to 80% in around 35 minutes.

]]>Its every Apple fan’s favorite time of the year! The annual September Conference from Apple, this time streamed on YouTube as well as their own streaming services, arrived on September 10th. We’re as excited as everyone else about the arrival of the iPhone 11. But what we’re most interested in is the charging tech.
Rumors abounded of an 18W charger becoming available as standard with iPhones. Not least there’s the debate about the onset of 5G technology, if this would be included and how this might affect battery life.
But what was true and what was part of the rumor mill? Read on to find out!
If you haven’t heard about the key updates, let us fill you in…
The major talking point from the conference was the announcement of the iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max. Hard to believe the first iPhone only launched in 2007, but here we are!
The iPhone 11 stands out because of its new processer, claims of a longer battery life, and amazing new camera tech. With three cameras, the iPhone 11 Pro has become a popular meme. The three cameras offer Wide, Ultra wide and Telephoto lenses, and are being touted as a key reason to buy the phone.
For us, what’s most interesting about the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max is that they will come with an 18W charger. This is a first for Apple, who so far have only shipped 5W chargers with their phones even though iPhone fast charging is common. Indeed, they’ll continue to only ship 5W chargers with every phone apart from the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max.
But what does this mean for iPhone 11 users?
Essentially, the new charger means that you can get iPhone fast charging without you needing to buy a separate fast charger. We’ve gone into detail about fast charging before, but what you need to know right now is that your phone takes in as much power as its charging circuit is designed for. Fast charging multiplies this to increase and maximise the Wattage, or electrical output. Your phone receives more electricity and charges more quickly as a result.
But as we said, it’s not being supplied with all the phones. – only with the new ones. So with any other iPhone model – and, lets face it, at $1,000 a pop you might want to hold onto your old model for a while – you’ll need to get an external charger.
All of this compute, graphics and ML performance is delivered while still enabling an unprecedented leap in battery life, with iPhone 11 Pro offering up to four more hours of battery life in a day than iPhone XS, and iPhone 11 Pro Max offering up to five hours more than iPhone XS Max.
Apple Press Release
The new series of Apple watch is here, with a hefty price tag to match. This time around, Apple are claiming an always on display whilst maintaining an 18 hour battery life.
That sounds pretty amazing, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out in reality. Particularly as work on Apple’s Airpower wireless charger was halted earlier this year, an incredulous story in itself, customers will need to be smart when choosing a watch that costs over $1000 to make sure they can keep it charged at all times. The development of over air charging, however, would be a big bonus for users here!
As unbelievable as it is we’re now on 12 years of the iPhone, we’re onto the 7th generation of the iPad. Having bought out the iPad pro and aimed a cheaper version at schools in order to recover from slumping sales, customers are getting something new from the original line. The 7th Gen iPad will feature a 10.2 inch display, up from 9.7 inch. They have also promised an A10 fusion chip which, alongside other upgrades such as a dedicated iPad iOS, means Apple are again promising an all day battery life.
One big thing that hasn’t been announced is an inclusion of 5G.
As we discussed before, this is going to be an important thing that might have an effect on the battery life of the phone. It’s believed that 5G would automate a lot of daily tasks, reducing the computing power necessary for your phone to ensure thinner devices with extremely extended battery life.
Although 5G is beginning to be rolled out across the Globe, the iPhone 11 doesn’t support it. Perhaps this is something for another year!
There’s also no reverse wireless charging, another rumor floating around. This is where you can turn your phone into a base station for charging, using its power to wirelessly provide power to your Airpods, Apple watch and so forth. It’s a feature of the Galaxy S10 phone and more; this might be something we see in the future.
One big consideration was that Apple were going to introduce the iPhone 11 with a USB-C port, rather than a lightning port. This would be huge as it would make the iPhone more universal. You’d potentially only need one charger and cable for your iPhone 11 and your headphones. It also is a step back on the Apple exclusivity.
Overall then, Apple aren’t quite catching up with providing the charging technology availble from other companies.
If your phone doesn’t come with a fast charger, RAVPower has a range of powerful fast chargers you can choose from.
Its not got the most succinct of names, but this is one powerful charger in a tiny shell that shouldn’t be underestimated.

]]>There are always rumors flying around (get it?) that airport scanners damage batteries. Most of these center on the idea that your laptop passing through an X-Ray scanner might seem fine initially. But a couple of days later the battery will have died. This is a potential nightmare: what if you’re on business and need your laptop, or even camera or mobile?
This blog takes a look at how safe it is to take your batteries through scanners at airports. Especially when 3D airport scanners are becoming more prevalent and issues around batteries in planes coming more important, this information is important to know.
Nowadays it’s common knowledge that pretty much everything you own needs to be passed through a scanner before you get on a plane. If you haven’t flown in a while, you should be aware of the 100ml liquids limit. Even bottles bigger than 100ml aren’t allowed on most flights! But there are some items you have to get out of your bag and for thorough checks.
If you’ve travelled with a power bank recently, you might have been asked to present it at check in. The airport staff will check to see that your power bank is under 100Wh (watt hours); if it isn’t, or is up to 160Wh without prior approval from the airline, it will probably be confiscated. This isn’t directly due to any notion that airport scanners damage batteries. Rather, it is because there is always a slight possiblity of combustion occurring; larger power banks have a blanket ban to reduce these risks.
Our handy page helps you calculate the watt hours of your device.
It’s important to note that your power bank isn’t allowed to travel in your checked luggage.
Your power bank has to travel in your hand luggage because taking lithium-ion batteries onto planes can be dangerous. Whilst generally safe to use and protected by many safety features, such as iSmart technology, lithium-ion batteries have a greater risk of combustion than other types. These fires are rare, but can happen – read about a recent emergency landing caused by a power bank fire on a flight between London and New York here.
If a fire began in the cargo hold, it would be incredibly difficult to extinguish. In hand luggage, this is a lot easier.
(Power banks) are portable devices designed to be able to charge consumer devices such as mobile phones and tablets…For carriage by passengers, power banks are considered spare batteries and must be individually protected from short-circuit and carried in carry-on baggage only.
International Air Transport Association Document, quoted at zendure.com
Often at airports, you’re required to take your laptop and tablet out to scan them separately to your luggage. Whilst this can be an annoying hassle, there is a key reasons for the regulation. And it isn’t to do with whether airport scanners damage batteries.
Essentially, this is because these devices are larger so they are deemed capable of concealing a weapon. Laptops in particular are pretty dense, and could hide anything from a knife to a small explosive in a bag as it passes through an airport X-ray scanner. Particularly in America, you might also be asked to prove that your laptop can be turned on and is fully functioning. These rules also apply to iPads and tablets – essentially anything bigger than a mobile phone.
Because of these rules, it is easier to:
It is also generally required that large cameras are processed separately through any airport x-ray scanner. This has been a rather recent proposition, and includes if you’re carrying your camera in a separate bag. In particular, if you’re taking large recording equipment on board, you might need to present it all separately.
This often isn’t enforced with smaller point-and-shoot cameras, which can be screened easily in bags. However, any TSA agent can ask to check your camera and regulations may change.
It is advised that you don’t take lots of extra batteries on a plane, regardless of if airport scanners damage batteries. This is for the same reason as power banks; the chances of combustion are higher, and therefore it is a protective measure.
If the batteries’ terminals were to come in contact with each other during the flight, they could short-circuit and start a fire. Additionally, if the battery terminals come into contact with some sort of metal, like a coin or keys, they could short-circuit, too, causing a fire. All batteries should be securely and separately stowed during a flight.

Before exploring if airport scanners damage batteries, you need to know about the two main types of scanners that are in place at airports nowadays. These are: x-ray, and 3D.
Often used, an airport x-ray scanner works by offering two different shots of your bag. One from above, one from the side.
The x-rays, which are similar to visible light with the exception of their shorter wavelength and higher frequency, travel through objects. Light, on the other hand, is absorbed. This gives agents a good way of looking at what’s in your bag without actually having to nose through it.
This is why it’s so important to take out your laptops and larger cameras. Dense objects are shown as darker, whilst anything that the x-ray goes straight through is light. This creates an image that provides detailed outlines of what’s in the bag. An image intensifier makes the contrast even greater. Your laptop could block something dangerous hiding underneath.
However, the standard airport X-ray scanner is increasingly being replaced with 3D airport scanners. This has often come into the news due to 3D body scans. It’s also an important new means of scanning bags, which the BBC claims might stop the laptop removal and 100ml liquid limit…
3D airport scanners work through “computed tomography”, AKA CT scanning that had previously been reserved for cargo baggage and, more commonly, in hospitals. This creates a clearer image of the bags, which agents can move around to get a total view. Staff will also be able to zoom in, for a true clear view.
Whilst these are a relatively new inclusion in airports, American and UK Governments are planning on rolling them out across their respective countries.
More often than not, this question is asked in relation to an airport x-ray scanner.
The answer is: generally, no. Whilst it’s always worth taking precautions, most batteries and data storage devices should be impervious to large doses of x-rays as they don’t have living tissues.
In large doses, ionizing radiation can harm biological tissue by damaging cell DNA faster than it can be repaired. But electronics aren’t made of biological tissue and they don’t have any DNA to worry about. So can X-rays cause them damage? Not in any significant way, no.
makeuseof.com
Whilst there are always exceptions to the rule, our advice is not to worry. Your laptop, camera and power bank are likely to be unaffected by an airport x-ray scanner or 3D airport scanners. What’s worse for your items is dropping them, or exposing them to extreme heat and cold. Try your best not to do this, wherever you fly!

]]>The year is 2019. You buy a new iPhone. You think that you have an iPhone fast charger – but when you plug it in, it seems normal speed. So, you ask yourself, what is fast charging? Does a Samsung fast charger work like this?! And if your phone does have the feature, then how to turn on fast charging?
It’s the feature that has lit up the charging world for the past few years. But fast charging is more complicated than it sounds, as many people are discovering. Just plugging in any old charger doesn’t help even if your phone is fast charging enabled, as this great piece on cables explains. Plus, all the talk of amps and volts and watts is pretty meaningless if you’re not sure what the benefits are, or whether a higher watt charger might help you go from 0-100% in half an hour.
Wonder no more as we give you the down low on what fast charging is, the difference between an iPhone fast charger and a Samsung fast charger, and how to turn on fast charging whether you have an iPhone, Samsung or OPPO. But first, we’ll give you a run down of a few terms you might need to know and might struggle to remember from high school science class…
There are some important words to remember when we’re talking about charging, and particularly when asking what is fast charging? Three key letters to remember are A, V, and W. Their meanings are:
The scientific way that electrical power is measured is seen in a simple formula. To understand the question of what is fast charging, you also need to know that according to the Dictionary a coulomb (C) is “the SI unit of electric charge, equal to the quantity of electricity conveyed in one second by a current of one ampere”.
What tends to make more sense is the plumbing pipes analogy. As ‘HowStuffWorks’ explains:
The voltage is equivalent to the water pressure, the current is equivalent to the flow rate, and the resistance is like the pipe size… What happens if you increase the pressure in the tank? [M]ore water come[s] out of the hose. The same is true of an electrical system: Increasing the voltage will make more current flow.
HowStuffWorks
Ultimately then, whether you have want an iPhone fast charger, a Samsung fast charger, or anything for your laptops and bigger devices, the science remains the same.
To understand fast charging you need a basic knowledge of how charging works. Of course, everyone knows that you plug your phone into a power outlet via USB or place it on a wireless charger in order to increase your battery. But how does this actually work?
Okay. So, what is fast charging? In essence, knowing the plumbing analogy helps you. In normal chargers, the current is generated and flows through the USB cables into your phone (learn more about why they’re important to fast charging here). The phone takes in as much power as its charging circuit is designed for. Fast charging simply multiplies this to increase and maximise the Wattage, or electrical output.
It’s well known that most smart phones contain Lithium-ion batteries. If you’re not sure about what this means, check out our quick guide!
The first thing you need to know is that your average smartphone’s Lithium-ion battery doesn’t just do ‘plug in, charge up’. It does two different things. Namely, the voltage steadily increases from anywhere as low as 2V to as high as 4.2V, known as the ‘constant current’ phase. The most amount of current is accepted by the battery in this stage, remaining constant until the voltage peaks.
What goes up must come down. Once the voltage peaks it begins to fall, with less current flowing into the battery. The battery charges slower after this; approximately 50-60% of the way into the charge.
Fast chargers understand this. They want to get as much current into the battery as possible before it hits its peak, which is why it’s important you know how to turn on fast charging on your smartphone for full efficiency. This is also why companies mention how fast their phones can reach 50% – not how fast it takes them to go from 80 to 100% (past peak voltage). Fast charging devices are able to exploit the pre-voltage peak by putting more current in (e.g. 30W or 61W) to safely increase your charging speed.
You can’t answer ‘what is fast charging?’ without looking at Qualcomm Quick Charge. This technology has been around for a few years now. In fact, it was probably part of your phone around 2013 as the 1.0 version! So if your phone from then is still going strong, you’ll be able to compare charging times. It’s probably the most common type of fast charging available.
There are two different versions in use now: 2.0, and 3.0. You would know the former through Samsung, who use the 2.0 version of the tech in their S and Note ranges as well as their incredibly similar ‘Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging’, for instance. Both version peak at around 18V, with the key difference being that 2.0 ups the voltage at 5V, 9V, and 12V. 3.0 has a wider range at which it can boost voltage, from 3.2V to 20V. This is why it’s good to know what voltage is best for your make and model of phone.
They’ve also brought out Qualcomm 4+, which they say is the one charging solution you’ll need. It narrows the voltage range while increasing the amps, and is compliant with Power Delivery. It’s rumored to charge compatible phones in 15 minutes, but isn’t widespread at the moment.
Note: if your phone only supports Qualcomm quick charge, then your charger will have to be Qualcomm quick charge, and vice versa. Your Qualcomm enabled charger is unlikely to work effectively with OPPO’s VOOC, for instance. Check out all compatible devices at this link.
USB Power Delivery is a standard authorised in 2012. It standardizes fast charging across all devices with USB ports, implementing a data protocol between the charger and phone. This means they’re both on the same page, as it were; the phone and charger will both be able to reach the maximum power delivery.
It works to up to 100W of power, though 7.5W and 15W are best for your smartphone. It’s becoming fairly standard for many companies, with most leading brands carrying this technology. It’s also within devices beyond mobiles like tablets and laptops. In fact, it’s the tech that Apple uses in their phone, so you need to look for one of these if you want an iPhone fast charger.
We’ve written in more detail about Power Delivery if you need more information, and looked into unusual reasons why you should get a PD charger. If you’re looking for an iPhone fast charger, you can check out the RAVPower range.
First introduced in 2014, VOOC stands for Voltage Open Loop Multi-step Constant-Current Charging. It uses dedicated technology to charge safely at 25W; SuperVOOC is the 2018 model, which delivers a maximum 50W of power.
OPPO claims that this can beat any Samsung fast charger or iPhone fast charger – 0-100% in 35 minutes, even if you’re watching Netflix or scrolling Instagram. Whilst there have been claims that this isn’t quite true – with the last 20 minutes being pretty slow – OPPO say this is faster than any other charging tech available at the moment. It’s also only available in OPPO phones.
Now we’ve answered ‘what is fast charging?’ it’s time to look at how you can turn it on. Most phones nowadays come with fast chargers; just in case yours has been turned off, check out our guide on how to turn on fast charging!
As we noted before, Samsung have their own Adaptive fast charging system that works similarly to Qualcomm’s. Most phones with a Samsung fast charger, such as the Galaxy Note 10, even support Adaptive USB and Wireless fast charging. Because of this, any new Samsung you buy should automatically come with Fast Charging turned on.
However, if you don’t think your Samsung fast charger is working or want to check, you can follow these simple instructions.
Check out the Samsung help page for more info!
Apple supports fast charging on iPhone 8 and above. They claim this leads to 50% battery in 30 minutes – amazing time, especially if your iPhone also drains battery!
iPhone fast charge should already be switched on with your phone. Apple suggest that if you think your phone isn’t fast charging, you are probably using the wrong charger… and lets face it, they’re probably right as they don’t supply an iPhone fast charger with their mobiles and Airpower failed miserably. Seems a bit of an oversight, but it means you can look around and buy cheaper, more efficient third party chargers elsewhere.
Official recommendations are that you use an 18W, 29W, 30W, 61W, or 87W USB-C Power Adapter, like the world’s smallest PD Pioneer GaN 61W charger. Once you use the correct charger you should see a huge difference with charging times.
As VOOC flash charging is its own entity, you need to look more closely at what to do if you’re using an OPPO phone. You can tell if your phone isn’t flash charging if the yellow lightning symbol in the top right hand corner isn’t showing. Luckily, the OPPO website provides all the details with how to deal with this. We’ve distilled the important ones here.
Firstly, you’ve got to know why your phone isn’t charging. To figure out if it’s a phone issue rather than a charger issue, you have to change out the USB cable and wall charger individually. By doing this, you can accurately check whether there is an issue with the charging port or the charger you’re using. And remember that, because OPPO’s charging tech is only in their phones, you can’t test by borrowing an iPhone fast charger or a Samsung fast charger from your friends.
You can also try little tricks like removing the battery and replacing it, if this is possible in your phone. Who knew they still made phones like that?! More likely, your OPPO battery won’t come out and you’ll have to try restarting your phone and downloading the latest software update. Again, this seems like a bit of an issue if you’re running out of battery…
If it’s your charger that has broken and you need an affordable replacement, we always recommend this nifty little number. And as we mentioned before – your phone wont fast charge effectively with a Samsung fast charger you’ve borrowed from a friend. Make sure you’ve got one that is compatible to take full advantage of this tech.
From Qualcomm to OPPO’s SuperVOOC, fast charging is the future. With the next advancement looking to lie with OPPO and Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+, we can expect some incredible charging speeds in the near future. But our key takeaways from asking ‘what is fast charging’? Well, at the very least you should now know how to turn on fast charging on your phone.
It’s important to remember as well that, whether you’re looking for an iPhone fast charger or want to test your Samsung fast charger, make sure you know the wattage and type of charger that your phone works best with. Then make sure you have a wall adaptor and cable that allows you to charge at full potential.
We hope we’ve answered what is fast charging! If you’re looking for an iPhone fast charger, did you know PD Power banks exist? Check out our favorite 30W PD Power Bank here!

The post Back to School Gifts for College Students appeared first on RAVPower.
]]>September is an incredibly important time for college and school students. Unless you’re in Australia, New Zealand, and other countries that have alternate term dates due to seasons being at opposite times to the northern hemisphere, students are probably prepping for a new school year. But these students often have everything covered. So what are the best back to school gifts for college students?
Great back to school gifts are the ones that everyone needs, but wouldn’t think of buying for themselves (or asking Mom and Dad for). Most of the time, this includes tech products that are used daily. Increasingly, it is including tech products like this incredibly filesharing device that kids hadn’t even realized existed.
Or if you’re off to college and looking to treat yourself with something practical – money doesn’t grown on trees – then we’ve put together a list of great ideas.
End your quest for the perfect gifts for college students here – read on to see exactly what tech they need!
Doing well in college is due to a myriad of factors, and is difficult enough. Having bad or slow tech shouldn’t be a drawback on this! The basics to keeping your tech running are simple: have great charging equipment and even better means of managing your files. For this reason, we’ve selected our favorite, most practical tech as back to school gifts for college students. This includes:
To do really well, you’ve got to get the basics right. And the basics of all charging tech is getting good cables.
Students need fast charging to keep up with their busy lives. Fast charging isn’t all about the wall charger you use.
A USB cable has four wires, including data and charging wires. How much power your cable carries is decided by the size of one of these charging cables. If you have a standard cable it’s 28/28 gauge. A 28/24 gauge is better for fast charging.
Standard wires only carry around .5A, whereas fast charging cables can carry up to 2A. This is because even though 24 seems lower than 28, they’re actually 60% bigger. You can check the power of your cable by downloading an app.
These also make great gifts for college students because they’re cheap, light and easy to fit in a loaded bag. Plus, you ALWAYS need them and always lose them at the wrong time; having some as a backup is perfect! Check out our recommendations at the end of the post.
We’d argue that in the modern world, power banks are important for everyone. They are useful everyday, not just for your phone but for accessories like wireless headphones – even this pair with 40 hours playback time.
Power banks are practical because they give you a boost during otherwise desparate times. The feeling of being under 10% battery as you walk home alone at night is terrible, as is the knowledge you might not be able to contact your friend to meet up if your phone dies in the next five minutes! For this reason, power banks you buy for back to school should be light, portable, and with fast recharge features.
They’re also great gifts for college students because they are something that will become imperative the more you use your phone. Plus, you’ll have peace of mind knowing your kid will always have access to power. Before you check out our recommendations at the bottom of the post, we’ve got ten features that you should consider when buying your power bank.
For modern students, a bulky box with loads of wires isn’t enough. Their tech needs to look and feel great, and be minimalist in a way that simply wasn’t possible even five years ago. Enter: the wireless power bank.
These power banks are great because you can totally cut the cord. Gone are the days of tangles; simply place your Qi enabled phone onto the power bank (easy to do on a college desk) and it will instantly begin charging. Not sure if your phone is compatible? You can check a list of Qi enabled phones here.
Coming in at just under a pound, the PB080 is a hefty piece of tech that will endure some impact drops. The tech inside boasts faster charging speeds (ideal for newer smartphones) and adapts depending on the device you are charging. For my iPhone XR, it took less than 20 minutes to charge from 73% battery strength to 100%.
David Thomas, RP-PB080 10400mAh Power Bank Review
If you’re looking for back to school gifts for more absent minded students, or those who might be out for a whole weekend, we recommend power banks that have over 20000mAh battery capacity. This capacity is important because it dictates the amount of full charges your phone can get from one fully charged power bank. For a 20000+mAh power bank and a modern phone, this should be at least three full charges.
A higher battery capacity power bank will often have more than one output port as well, meaning you can charge two or three devices simultaneously. This is great for busy students on the go, as well as great for their friends who might have forgotten their charger!
This solves all your back to school gifts issues at once, although often these chargers don’t have a huge battery capacity. Wall charger power banks do what they say on the tin; they work as a wall charger whilst simultaneously charging their built-in power bank. Users can carry these lightweight devices around with them all day safe in the knowledge that they can charge their phone anywhere with a wall outlet, as well as having back up power.
We’ve written about these before as, to be honest, we’re big fans. These devices are practical and have saved our charging souls more than once. They’re also great for keeping mobile gamers powered while out and about (Pokemon Go crew, we’re looking at you and have a special post for you here).
For students who are lugging a laptop around with them all day, wall chargers are an important item. What’s even more important is that they’re powerful and lightweight. Did we mention PD charging? Yeah, that’s a key feature!
Power delivery is the creation of a universal standard for charging. This means that you can power your phone with the same wall charger that you power your iPad Pro and MacBook with; and in the tech world, one simple solution is always the best way forward. They’re able to supply up to ten times traditional USB wattage, enabling fast charging across all devices. As long as you have the right cables and your device is capable of fast charging of course.
PD Charging wall chargers are perfect back to school gifts for college students because one size fits all. They don’t have to think about whether their switch and their phone can be charged with the same device – it just works, and works quickly! Moreover, not only are they great looking, light and portable, but the socially conscious student would like that they could be better for the environment.
FileHubs are a great untapped resource for college students. In particular, students studying degrees that involve group work – including STEM subjects – will benefit majorly from owning a FileHub.
This is because FileHubs are a filesharing device that also take on the role of wireless router. It effectively creates unlimited storage for your iPad, iPhone or laptop; simply transfer all the data with one-click onto a storage device of your choosing and voila! Perfect back to school gifts.
This also prevents any unexpected losses of work from forgetting to save. Regularly transfer and the project wont have to be restarted every few days! Plus, you can share work from everyone in a group to a communal folder so that you can keep track of what work has been achieved.
It also means students can do everything from essays to searching one-pan recipes to easily streaming 4K movies at home whilst having protected Wi-Fi. ]]>In need of a weekend away? Over 40 million people choose camping in the US in 2017 – and that’s some incredible scenery. From Yosemite National Park to the Grand Canyon and all the amazing places in between, you need to make sure you’ve got cool camping gear and great camping accessories to keep you safe and happy! This isn’t just about tents, though as you’ll see below, these are incredibly important. In the modern world you need your electronics and you need them fully powered. So your list of camping essentials is going to change slightly.
Quick note, this might involve a car battery charger… check out our full list below!
Before we get to the tech, let’s go over the regular equipment you need that’s important.
If you’re vacationing in a national park or somewhere similar, you need to make sure you’re safe. You’re going to have the elements against you and you need to stay protected, so warm clothing for night-time is important. Deciding on the right kind of tent is key – learn more about that here. Make sure you have the right size!
You also need to make sure that you have an adequate supply of food and water; hugely important camping essentials. Keeping healthy and hydrated is key, especially if you’re off on a rugged trail somewhere!
This isn’t a full extensive list – but it should help! If you’re looking for the really cool camping gear, carry on reading…
With the exception of the flashlight, these camping accessories have one thing in common: they don’t need electricity to work. That’s all well and good – especially if you want to escape the modern world for a weekend. But what about making your life easier? There’s definitely tech that can help with this.
It doesn’t have to be super high tech either. It’s about finding the balance between being Bear Grylls and going for full glamping luxury. The best cool camping gear will help you out without weighing you down and keep you on the move, making your trip more enjoyable without being the focus of the journey.
Bringing electronic camping accessories with you can genuinely help, particularly if you like exploring off the beaten track. Having chargers that can help keep your devices at full power could be vital to finding your way back to your car; having a charger that will help your car get back on its feet if you’ve been camping for a few days is also going to stop you getting stranded.
Plus, having a built in flashlight to your electronics cuts down on the amount of camping accessories you have to bring on your trip.
If you’re taking a long ride out to reach your camping spot, and if you’re driving an older car that tends to lose battery if left alone for a few days, the perfect tech is out there. Taking a car charger with you can be cumbersome and feel pointless; it helps do only one job. So why not take something that’s multipurpose, like a power station?
Power stations are cool camping gear because of their lightweight versatility. Our favourite is RAVPower’s 14000mah Power Station, which has three charging options: as a car charger, wall charger, or power bank. With the included DC5V/2.1A AC charger, it can be fully recharged within 5.5 hours to charge an iPhone 7 up to 5 times and a Galaxy S7 3 times. This means you’re going to be able to charge your phone over the weekend and give your car a boost, as it will kick start all gasoline and diesel engines (up to 7L with a 12V battery) up to 20 times with only one charge.
Not bad for a weekend away. Get yours here!
This might seem like an Elon Musk moment – but we’re not saying to cover your tent in solar panels like an island in the Americas. One of the best camping essentials to take with you is a solar panel charger. Whilst they might sound fragile and cumbersome, they’re anything but. Rugged, foldable and lightweight, solar panel chargers provide a non-polluting, inexhaustible energy source. You can feel great knowing you’re charging your device whilst you protect the natural world.
When you hang a solar panel on your tent or back pack, highly efficient solar cells convert solar power into free energy. You can use this to charge your phone, GPS system and any other devices you might take no matter how long your away – as long as you’re not out in a thunderstorm. The charging might be slower than you’re used to, especially if you use PD charging, but you’re probably not going to need your phone at all times! You can go all out with a powerful 120W, 18V Solar Panel, or you can stick to a budget with the excellent 24W Solar Panel.
Not prepared to carry a full solar panel with you? Easy – swap it out for a solar panel power bank. These handy devices can be charged at an outlet or by leaving them in the sunshine, meaning you’ve got a power source as an emergency back up solution for as long as you’re away. Whilst it definitely won’t jump start your car, solar power banks will keep your phone or GPS and other USB devices charged for days on end.
Our recommendation for wilderness thrill seekers is to get a powerbank with at least 20000mAh, to ensure you get a good few charges from one pack. Thats why we recommend RAVPower’s 25000mAh Outdoor Portable Charger with solar panel. It can power up to three smartphones or tablets at once with iSmart, quick charge 5V/6.4a. It also has a built-in flashlight so you don’t have to drain the battery on your flashlight or use your phone to check something in the night. Perfect!
Plus, it’s built for the outdoors, so it’s pretty rugged. Click here to check it out!
If you’re looking for cool camping gear, we have you covered. We really recommend getting some hardy solar power equipment to keep you powered even when it’s cloudy; a solar panel charger is great for this, but you can also use a solar power bank. For total peace of mind we also recommend a power station that can jump start your car. Getting any of these gadgets can help improve your trip immensely!

]]>It’s the game that has swept over the globe – and shows no signs of stopping. Pokémon Go is immensely popular, being played by an estimated 147 million active users as of May 2018. If you’re a fan and love getting out in the great outdoors to play, you’ll have noticed one important issue: the game is a battery drainer. But what are the best power banks for Pokémon Go players?
Power banks are an important part of the modern phone user’s life, particularly if you have an iPhone. You need something that can keep up with you as you roam, and provide you with enough power to maintain screen brightness. Plus, you want something portable and light – and it can be a minefield finding the right one!
There are a range of options out there for people who want to catch them all. This blog will help you explore why you need a power bank and which types are the best power banks for Pokémon Go!
First off, you need a power bank full stop. Smart phones nowadays aren’t smart enough to have a battery that powers you for even a full day, and any potential benefits of 5G and over air charging are a long way off. If you haven’t already got one it’s a smart move, and is beneficial in a number of situations including traveling, commuting, and for just when you can’t be bothered to plug your phone into the outlet far away from where you’re sat.
Secondly, everyone knows that it’s way to easy to start playing games, forget about the time, and before you know it it’s hours later and you don’t know where the day has gone. We’ve all been there.
But this kind of playing has consequences – and not just for your square eyes. It’s a battery drainer, with a high-tech game like Pokémon Go using an incredible amount of power. This is particularly the case for older phones, which are just not built for this type of game play. Their batteries will fail relatively fast, reducing the amount of time you can play and potentially reducing the life of your phone battery.
Thirdly, you play Pokémon Go outside. This means that unless you’re willing to go and buy a drink or some food in a cafe, or have friends/apartment nearby, you’re unlikely to come across a power source. When being portable and having power is key, you don’t want to waste time tethered to a wall or searching for an outlet.
This might sound like an obvious feature. But you’d be shocked at just how heavy some of the most powerful power banks are. Let’s face it, food and water are also important to bring and will lighten your load as you use them. Using a power banks power will only make it a dead weight. If you want the extra work out, that’s no problem. But if you’re looking to play for a while without dragging a heavy backpack along with you, keep it light.
Again, this seems like it goes without saying. But you’ll need to figure out how powerful you want your power bank to be. For smaller and lighter ‘one charge’ power banks, which might be the best power banks for Pokémon Go occasional players, you’ll need to look for around 6,700mAh battery. For people wanting two or more charges, check out power banks at 10,000mAh. Anyone searching for a power bank that will last you a few days with regular use should go for 20,000mAh or above.
It’s all well and good having a power bank, but it’s not great if you need to spend hours recharging it. Most modern power banks should have quick recharge features, meaning it only takes two to four hours to fully charge the power bank instead of eight to ten. What’s more, you can get power banks that charge themselves as they charge your device. These might be the best power banks for Pokémon Go players who want something for day-to-day use as well as for gaming.
Certain safety features are a must if you’re phones charging for a long time. Primarily, protection from overcharging, overcurrent and overvoltage is key to ensure that your phone maintains the right charge at all times. Newer power bank models can also include PD fast charging. This means if your phone is fast-charging equipped, you can charge quickly and not have to use it whilst it is charging for so long. Or, take a quick lunch break and by the end of it, you’re charged again!
Power banks shouldn’t break the bank. You aren’t looking for state of the art tech; the best power banks for Pokémon Go players should be under $60. This is widely achievable even for power banks with the largest battery sizes with many e-commerce companies, and Amazon Marketplace is a great source for your power bank needs. Set the budget you need and see what’s available, then you can weigh up if you need to spend any extra. You might be surprised with the savings you can find!
As with any electronic product, your power bank should come with a warranty. Make sure you check this out before you buy, and that it lasts at least a year. Some companies offer additional warranty if you register your product as well, which is a big bonus. You should also read reviews about the company themselves and their customer service levels. There’s no point getting an extra-long warranty on a product if a company is likely to mess you around.
For light use; people who want one charge, and a multifunctional power bank. This is both a wall charger and a power bank, and charges itself as it charges your device. Perfect for gamers on the move.
This 6700mAh power bank is a compact 9 x 2.5 x 4cm, but don’t let that fool you into thinking light = weak. It uses LG 3350 battery cells with a 2.4A output and 2A input, meaning the power bank itself charges twice as fast as the standard. Indeed, it’s capable of being fully charged and ready to go in under three hours.
Moreover, it uses iSmart Technology, RAVPower’s industry leading protection standards. iSmart prevents overcharging, overvoltage, short-circuiting and more for your peace of mind, even if you’re charging overnight. Just slide it into your bag and head out with enough juice to keep you going all day.
If you’re looking for a power bank that’s adaptable, and light enough and powerful enough to use daily, look no further.
For people who want to cut the cord. This means the power bank can be used by any Qi enabled phone, so that you and your friends can charge your phones without carrying extra cables around with you.
At 10,000mAh, this wireless portable power bank is a good middle ground for gamers. It will give you enough charge for your phone and a friend’s, and you can give it a fast recharge via its 2.4A input port (it’s fully charged in only 2.5hours!) What’s more, you can charge two devices at once. One via the iSmart 2.0 USB port, and one wirelessly! Again, iSmart means you’ve got all the protective features you need to charge safely including overvoltage, overcurrent, and short-circuit protection.
As a Qi enabled charger, this is the best power bank for Pokemon Go players who game with a friend. Qi (pronounced ‘Chee’) charging is a form of wireless charging supported by all major phone manufacturers. Phones that use Qi include iPhone X / 8 Plus / 8, and Galaxy Note S9 / S9 Plus / S8 / S8 Plus.
It’s also light and portable, and one of the most practical, best power banks for Pokémon Go players who want to remove the need to carry multiple cables around. What could be better!
This is up there with the best power banks for Pokémon Go players who are dedicated to long days, and need hours of battery. It will keep you going for as long as you need, and has a built-in solar panel for eco-friendly charging options.
25,000mAh is a great amount of power to have in one easily portable device. To put it in perspective, that’s over 6 days of use for smartphones and smaller devices. It can also simultaneously charge 3 phones via its up to 5V/6.4a with quick charge, USB-C, and iSmart charging ports. Again, all the safety features you need; especially important when you’re doing simultaneous charging.
Something that really stands out about this power bank is how sturdy it is. The solar panel is rugged and, while you have to be careful carrying it about so it doesn’t get damaged in your backpack, the case is protective. The solar panel can see you through the daylight hours as a last resort. It even has a built in torch for anyone who wants to game at night – or just went out for too long and needs a light for getting home…
This, then, is one of the best power banks for Pokémon Go players who need a weeks’ worth of impressive power. It’s a popular power bank as well – it will once again be AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE FROM THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST!

]]>We’ve covered information about flying with power banks – we even created an e-book about it. This isn’t the only issue with charging and flying though. What about using an airport charging station? Is it safe? And what can you do to stay safe when charging at airports? Check out our guide!
An airport charging station is a stand in an airport featuring plug outlets and USB ports where you can charge your phone. They often have multiple outlets or ports, so you’re charging alongside many people. Most are free at point of use and give you a boost whilst you’re waiting to depart – especially if your charger is stuck in your luggage.
Recharging services are available for free at most airports. There’s a handy list here for all US airports that offer an airport charging station – and you can learn about the proper etiquette for using one!
There’s been a lot of argument recently about whether you should or should not use an airport charging station. A lot of this is centered around cyber crime, and if people can get access to your phone via an airport charging station.
Caleb Barlow, the Vice President of IBM’s X-Force Threat Intelligence team, publically stated to Forbes in May that phones could be attacked through public USB ports. These ports, he argued, are easily open to manipulation by cyber criminals and using them leaves people open to attack.
Plugging into a public USB port is kind of like finding a toothbrush on the side of the road and deciding to stick it in your mouth. You have no idea where that thing has been… And remember that that USB port can pass data.
Caleb Barlow, Vice President of X-Force Threat Intelligence at IBM Security
Lets be real – picking a USB that has been tampered with and is able to read everything on your phone isn’t what the average traveler will worry about.
But it’s definitely something you should consider if you have anything of importance on your tech. Imagine if your work phone got hacked; or if people got access to all your socials… Barlow thinks that’s the risk you run if you pick up any random USB’s left in airport charging stations.
Barlow predicts a scenario where an internet thief could leave a dodgy USB lying in a socket, which you would assume is part of the free airport charging station. You plug in and charge, and simple as that the theif has your details.
So, the easiest and most practical way to keep your phone secure is to not use any USB cord charging stations you find at the airport. We’d say follow the experts advice and avoid using them at all costs.
There are a couple of ways to charge at an airport that are guaranteed to be safe and secure. Really, you need to bring your own charging equipment. Barlow doesn’t thing it is the outlets that are dangerous, but the USB’s themselves. So stay secure!
This is the safest way to charge your phone at an airport. Keep your power bank on you at all times and you can rest easy knowing that it is totally secure, un-tampered with and not ready to steal your data!
If you need a power bank to keep you going the whole holiday, we recommend one that is at least 20,000mAh. But make sure the wattage is low enough to be carried on the plane! You can check that at our guide, or with the airline you’re flying with.
Other things you should check for include durability, so that it can handle being jostled in your bag during the flight. If it has a built-in USB-C cord and you’ve got a modern android phone, even better! With an iPhone, make sure you use your own cables. If you get a power bank with PD charging, you need good cables to get the fastest charge. Read more about that here.
Another option is to get a good wall charger alongside a universal adaptor. It’s a bit more to carry, but you’ll be able to get power all over the world.
Wall chargers are great value for money because you can use them with all devices. As long as you have the correct USB cable, a wall charger like this 61W PD Pioneer GaN charger will charge your laptop, tablet, or phone quickly and efficiently. What’s more, they’re light and compact, easy to throw in your bag. In all, it’s a great and safe travel companion!
Bet you didn’t see this one coming! Yep – you can get power banks that also work as a wall charger. The best of both worlds! RAVPower have a fantastic small version – RP-PC125 – which charges itself as you charge your phone. It also uses iSmart Technology, RAVPower’s industry leading protection standards, for your total peace of mind. It’s worth checking out.

]]>We sent David Thomas, a self-professed cinephile, gamer and geek who provides insights into how tech fits into his busy life at his blog, one of our wireless 10400mAh power banks. He provided this RP-PB080 review for us, as well as a Facebook live stream explaining the pros and cons of carrying a wireless power bank!
Portable chargers are in great abundance now, as it is becoming more difficult to find one that is truly unique and worthy enough to be placed in one’s travel bag or EDC backpack. With the RAVPower RP-PB080, this particular power bank packs a punch for the price. But is the RP-PB080 worth your money? In this review, I break down the pros and cons of owning this power bank.
First Impressions
The RP-PB080, from the perspective of a regular guy who seldom travels but enjoys tech, will seem to be a bit of overkill. Traveling is something that I may get a chance to do during a family reunion or a mini road trip where chargers are limited and occupied. In the two weeks I had with the portable charger, I was able to test the product at work and during a quick trip to Jacksonville, Florida to visit a family member currently in the hospital. Here are my experiences with the RP-PB080.
Charging Capabilities For An Occasional Traveler
During my time with the PB080, I was able to charge my iPhone XR, My 2016 13′ MacBook Pro with Retina Display and my mother’s Amazon Fire tablet up to 6 times* each before the power bank’s battery need to be recharged. For the moderate iPhone user, the RP-PB080 is a godsend, packing an impressive punch in a 10,400mAh portable charger. Granted, I’m not a typical smartphone user, as I do not have my eyes glued to the screen checking social media or playing games so this may not be indicative of the portable charger’s true capabilities.
Future Proof
The PB080 is a universal power bank, and only requires a micro USB cable to charge it. For the newer iPad Pros, MacBook Pros or for Android users, this will be a welcome addition to your travel bag or tech backpack. For those of us who don’t own a USB-C compatible device and have numerous micro-USB cables around, charging your devices are possible with a micro-USB port included as well. In my travels, carrying a single USB-C, micro-USB and Lightning cable really helped to reduce clutter in my travel bag. I didn’t have to worry about packing the A/C power brick for my MacBook Pro or a small power adapter for my iPhone.
READ MORE: Find Your Freedom with a Wireless Portable Power Bank
The Design Quality Is Impressive
The PB080 is no lightweight, as it weighs significantly more than your standard power bank. If I was out and about during a long trek or seeing the sights, the time in which the portable charger would need to fully charge devices would differ, but only slightly. For a 10,400 mAh power bank, this is an absolute steal.
Bittersweet
Enough about me singing the praises of the RP-PB080. With the sweet comes the bitter so there are a couple of complaints I have about this product. This style of use is not ideal for extended periods of time. In the event that you may misplace a charger, this will be a viable option, but keep in mind that the power bank is not a permanent solution to your charging needs. Portability is a bit limited in comparison to other power banks. The PB080 is lightweight, but its size will make it difficult to carry around in your pockets (front or back). The form factor is slim, but resembles the size of a thicker Nintendo Switch game case. This is best suited for staying in your travel bag or tech backpack that has the functionality of connecting a power bank inside, with a USB-A port on the outside to charge your phone, tablet or laptop.

Treat Yourself
In conclusion, the RAVPower PB080 is a viable option for consumers who need a reliable and sturdy power bank for traveling and charging their most used technology. While you won’t be able to carry it in your pockets (at least comfortably), this is a solid choice for those of you who want to set it and forget it when it comes to portable charging solutions. Many thanks to RAVPower for sending the product out for review.
If you’ve found David’s RP-PB080 review helpful and want your own 10400mAh Wireless Power Bank, they’re available at our website or on Amazon.

The post What is Over Air Charging? Android or iPhone Wireless Charger Update | RAVPower appeared first on RAVPower.
]]>Recently, the charging world has been ablaze with a futuristic notion: an over air charger. It sounds pretty impressive compared to Qi chargers, and creates quite an image in your mind. But what is over air charging? When will it be available, and what Android or iPhone wireless charger alternatives are out there right now? RAVPower investigates!
It’s essentially what it sounds like. Currently, Qi chargers need to have a direct connection with your device to be able to function. With over air charging, you won’t have to be connected to your Android or iPhone wireless charger, as you are presently. Theoretically, you could enter a room with a base station and your Qi-enabled technology such as smartphones, smart watches and earbuds will instantly begin charging. The first iterations will charge your phone via a charging case. At least, that’s what preliminary designs suggest.
Over air charging is linked to the concepts of the Internet of Things and True Wireless. These concepts are based on the idea that with the advent of 5G and leaps forward in technologies, people will be able to make their entire lives ‘smart’. In a smart house, for example, you would be able to control the temperature of each room individually through an App on your phone. It’s the sort of thing inventors in the 50’s dreamed of.
In the charging world, the potential of 5G on batteries is largely unknown. But over air charging could revolutionize how we power our phones, and keep us on the grid 24/7.
WattUp differs from older wireless charging systems because it supports power at-contact, as well as at-a-distance, enabling a charging ecosystem that frees users from always having to actively charge or manage batteries.
WattUp Over Air Charger creators Energous
There is a Qi standard for wireless charging that ensure the safety of you and your phone, increasing efficiency and preventing potentially dangerous mishaps. This means that though there are technically two types of wireless charging (magnetic inductive and magnetic resonance) they work through the same principles and to the same standards.
If your phone is Qi-enabled and works with Qi chargers now, then the short answer is yes! The majority of phone makers have accepted Qi charging as an important factor in their designs, and the widespread use of both Android and iPhone wireless charger devices demonstrates the popularity of the tech. So even if you upgrade your phone in the next couple of years, you should be able to take advantage of True Wireless advances.
True Wireless over air charging might be available this year. But that’s a very tentative might.
Tech company Ossia, who have been working on this form of charging for the past few years, unveiled at CES 2019 that they are working with mobile phone accessory maker Spigen to create the first True Wireless charging case. The case would be able to charge from a base station in the room, receiving signals from a distance of up to 12 feet. Ossia claims that this means in a small room, such as your bedroom, you could charge your phone for as long as the transmitter was on. This case has recently been approved by the FCC.
Ossia aren’t the only developers in the market, however. If all goes to plan, different base station devices should be available on the market within the next couple of years. This would be a great leap forward for tech companies, with trends in True Wireless often governing the direction they decide to take with their products.
A full-size device charging at 15 feet away would appear on the roadmap for the end of 2020… “This has the potential to be as ubiquitous as Wi-Fi,”
Over-the-air wireless charging will come to smartphones, Jessica Dolcourt/Cnet
So over air charging isn’t going to be a thing until 2020. That’s cool, but it doesn’t help you right now.
What’s available at this moment is wireless charging via Qi chargers. Qi chargers (pronounced Chee) work via inductor coils in both the charger and your mobile. These coils have the ability to act as a transformer, albeit temporarily. The charger generates an electromagnetic current in the device’s coil, which is transferred to the battery to power your phone (or smartwatch and other Qi-enabled devices).
RAVPower have developed their own range of Qi chargers using precision designed HyperAir technology. A more effective way to charge, HyperAir Qi chargers have extensive temperature control components. This includes an intelligent chip that monitors and adjusts the charging temperature. An intelligent structure leads to 15% higher heat dissipation, keeping your phone and fingers safe and preserving your battery life.
What’s more, HyperAir technology is able to charge all phone types. Android and Apple require different wattage from Qi chargers; 7.5W Fast Wireless Charging for iPhone and 10W for Andriod, including Samsung. This means you only need one wireless charging pad for the whole family – or maybe two to stop squabbles over who gets to use it…
Qi chargers are by no means at their potential. There are some snags to do with overheating and other issues, as Apple found out when they tried to launch Airpower, before a Qi charger capable of charging all your devices is created. But Qi charging pads or Qi power banks are a great accessory to own; an Android or iPhone wireless charger will keep you powered whilst at work or on the move.

If you’re here, you’ve heard about our powerful FileHub. A device that incorporates a travel router, power bank, wireless file transfer and one key back up, it is quite simply phenomenal. If you’re still not convinced, read on to learn just how much this device can change your life…
If you’ve had to buy a lower GB iPhone for whatever reason (often the hugely increased cost of buying an iPhone with bigger memory) then this is the device for you. You can regularly back up your photos with ease and free up storage on your mobile, helping it run quicker. It works as well with iPads and tablets/laptops as it does with mobiles!
Bored on the commute, at home, or well… anywhere? FileHub 2019 Version helps you stream media including 4k movies and music on connected smartphones, tablets, TVs, media players, Chromecast, Roku, and other DLNA devices, via the dedicated App or the web. You won’t remember life without it!
If you’re on a social media cleanse, or just can’t be bothered to continually upload to Facebook, we’ve got you covered. Seamlessly share your photos and videos with family and friends with FileHub to update them on your life.
All this tech in one tiny, sturdy device is pretty amazing but trust us – and many reviewers – when we say it’s as good as it seems. Measuring only 4.45 x 3.03 x 0.91 inches, it’s small enough to fit in your pocket or camera/hand bag. At 7 ounces it’s also super lightweight but just feels like powerful tech. Get your hands on one and see for yourself.
If you’re running out of memory on your phone, there’s a quick answer. Using the dedicated app, you can take a photo and save it instantly to your SD card plugged into the FileHub. It bypasses your phone, so you’re not taking up memory AND your photos have enhanced privacy. Win win.
If you need an intermediary device to transfer photos but don’t want to spend the money on a laptop, this is the perfect option. Take all the features you need in one streamlined device and reduce your costs by hundreds of dollars.
That’s it. That’s our whole point. It just makes sense.
One Key Backup means you don’t even need a phone with the app to transfer your data. If you’re on the move or in a rush, simply plug in your camera or phone’s SD card and a hard drive to quickly and easily transfer all your files over. One press – that’s all it takes! We think this is particularly great for travelers, photographers, or anyone who doesn’t want to carry around/risk losing or damaging multiple SD cards.
FileHub lets you create different accounts for users so you can keep your documents safe. For instance, if you want a separate Wi-Fi for guests in your house, you can just create an account for them to log into without resorting to any awkward measures. Or if you run a cafe, there’s no need to buy two networks- simply create a guest account for customers to access, and log-in to the same Wi-Fi on your account. You get secure Wi-Fi and reduce your monthly costs, which is definitely something to think about.
We wouldn’t be RAVPower if we didn’t write about this one.
We’re not saying replace your regular power bank with a FileHub, but this will definitely give you a quick boost whilst you transfer files. Simply connect your phone and press the on switch to charge. No need to carry multiple chargers on a day trip; an amazing added bonus!
Yes – you read that correctly! July 6th from 00:00 – 23:55, you can get FileHub 2019 Version for an amazing $39.19, down from $59.99! Own this one versatile device for less than the price of a power bank.
What are you waiting for? There’s a limited supply, so buy yours here before the deal runs out!
